So with all the credit scamming and duping etc. Does this mean we cant sell product anymore? Are the trade forums really back to being "trade forums"? where trading itemsis the new form of barter? since credits are sorta worthless now, this seems like the only logical step to me
This still doesnt ensure someone didnt buy the item with duped credits and is now trading it.
This is truly the end of this somewhat great game and its a sad to see it end like this. Between all dupers getting banned (good bye) and then all the legit players that got caught up in it innocently somehow, then the crafters who had merchandise purchased from them and either got banned or the money and goods taken away, and then all the friends of legit players who dont feel a need to play anymore.
I went to 2 vendors last night in my travels through cities on naboo, 1 a armor vendor, 1 a chef. Well both Houses/tents were gone. talked to a guildie in the town, said he was banned and that the town is gonna pretty much be a ghosttown since a bunch of the players are leaving cause of it. Im assuming the chef tent went poof for the same reason..
I truly think this is the end of the game. Real shame too since we're so close to jump to lightspeed launch and now the credit in the game has become worthless..
And i sit here at work bored, trying to think, what could SOE have done to prevent this, maybe act quicker in shutting it down, whatever. But, What can they do to fix this.... That is the real question. What do real economists do when the dollar is worthless and a pair of shoes is worth $5,000,000 xxxxxx dollars.
And i came up with this, and maybe it wont work cause i dont see the bigger picture, which sure maybe im a dumbass lol. would go something like this.
Create a "New" type of money in the game, No conversion rate for the Old Money whatsoever, although brokers or whoever could surely create a exchange market although that would be unprofitable. So Basically we have a new type of money in the game, Call It Gold Bars, or Latinum, or GreenBacks or whatever. But it will be paid out by missions and quests and the point of it would be to EVENTUALLY phase out the normal credits in the game.
Not sure if it works, but its something that could perhaps be developed

The market will correct itself. The rich will just get richer in the process. And sit on the wealth of super credits while the middle class continue on as before. I do not think anyone is going to pay more for armor just because duped credits are floating around.
It's the innocent people getting banned that have me worried.

This is a sad day, I think a lot of really good players in the game are going to quit because of this. It's to bad too.
They should have written the code to determin the origination of the duped credits and banned those people, then made those who received the credits turn them in. In real life if a shop owner received counterfit money on a sale it's the shop owner who loses out. This is why the US puts so much effort into anti-counterfit modifications on the money. It gives the shop owner a chance to make sure the cash is good. Unfortunatly it is impossible to make that determination in the game when credits are nothing but an Integer variable.
Hell, I haven't played in a few days but I do have a vendor and could have received duped credits through that. Wait my vendor is run buy our town mayor, laugh. If she is banned from the game I will not be returning. SOE went about solving this problem the wrong way in my opinion.
Have you noticed that not one developerhas posted on this subjectother then the original credit dupe post? Shows how much they care.

And with all of the panic and questions out there, that is the biggest crime of all.

Man, don't let the sky hit you when it falls. Why's everyone acting like this is the stock market crash or the end of the game as we know it? Credits worthless now? A credit is still a credit. It's not as if no one has ever duped credits before; that's how the economy got this way in the first place. Credit duping was rampant 8 or 9 months ago and there was major inflation on most of the servers. Since then things have calmed down and the economy had begun to right itself. It will right itself again once the majority of the duped credits are filtered back out of the system and the leak is fixed. Those with lots of legit credits may want to hang on to them for a while and not buy any 20 million credit weapons on the trade forums for a while, but it's definitely not the end of the game.
Replacing "credits" with another "kind" of currency only available through missions is kind of pointless. That's what credits are to begin with. It's the illegitimate sources of income that have inflated things. Whether you call them credits, dinars, rubles, whatever, there will stll be illegitimate sources of income at one point or another until they're found and stopped. The only way to completely deflate the economy would be to wipe all credits system-wide and start everyone at 0. But that's never going to happen. Just ride it out and everything will be back on an even keel, or at least not listing as far to port, in a couple weeks.

the only reason that credits are still the active currency is that there isn't anything out there to replace them (example: soj's in diablo).
our in-game economy is still better than Mexico's though!!!!
