I finally broke down and registered with Station to get this answered.
Yesterday I bought 3 chef tapes which I put into my chef hat +2with 3 sockets. When I looked at the hat after I had put the tapes into it, it still said +2 chef expermentation. I was mad, did the whole log out thing, blah, blah, blah. Eventually I went to the holocron and read where it said that if an item already has an ability modifier then adding skill tapes of the same modifier will have no effect. So,I have 3 more chef tapes I need to put into clothing. All are Chef Expermentation +1 with no other modifiers. If I try to put them intoone piece of clothing will they all work or will only the first tape work, assuming I have enough sockets of course, or will I need to have 3 pieces of clothing and putone tape into seperate clothes?

1) only 1 attachment of a particular type will 'take' per piece of clothing
so
2) place each of your 3 remaining attachments in to 3 diffrent pieces of clothing

You'll need to put them in to seperate clothes as you can't stack them inthe sameitem of clothing, you also can't put them in the chiefs apron BTW

You have to put each one in a separate piece of clothing.
A higher tape will 'overwrite' a tape of the same mod, but tapes of the same + power will just disappear.
So if you put 3 +1 tapes into one shirt.. it would still be +1. but if you put a +1 into the shirt, and later got a +3 and put it in the shirt (assuming you had sockets), you would then have a +3 shirt (but not plus 4, as it overwrote the other one).
For dual modded tapes and AAs, the larger value applies. For dual modded with equal mods on 2 things, its either in the order listed, or alphabetically - I've heard some on each side of that.

thank you all for the quick responces. This is something I wish I had known before I put the tapes into my hat but I am glad to know it now. I won't ever make this mistake again.
