Thread: /waypoint suggestion. Any feedback appreciated.

I wish to suggest a minor enhancement to the /waypoint command. In the past, I have been one of the contributors of waypoint macros for various purposes and consider the ability to share waypoint macros an important means by which players are able to share information across individual servers as well as across the entire game.

The current waypoint command is thus:

/waypoint [X] [Y]

I wish to suggest that there be three optional arguments added to this command:

/waypoint [X] [Y] [Z] [Planet] [Name]

To explain the additions:

[Z] = Z axis (depth)
[Planet] = Planet for which waypoint is to be created, allowing you to create waypoints for planets you are not currently on.
[Name] = Name of the waypoint as it will appear in your Datapad.

To illustrate further, here are a few hypothetical applications of the new functionality:

-A player event scavenger hunt in which people must visit a set of locations in a particular order could be listed on the forums and named waypoints could be imported in a matter of seconds.
-Rangers sharing their previous sightings of rare creatures across servers.
-The bounty hunter profession could have a number of macros that would create waypoints for all of the NPC contacts across the galaxy that are relevant for a player's investigation level as well as all of the terminals.
-Large PVP battles could be coordinated without the need for the commanding officer to visit each planet they wish to attack just to make waypoints.
-A group of crafters could coordinate their efforts on their own site and privately share waypoints on that basis for recent resource spawns.

I would be interested in any feedback my fellow players have on this. The extra arguments would be optional so it would not effect many people's use of the command, but I'm sure there are plenty of things that this enhancement would allow, ideas for which you are welcome to post here.

Makes perfect sense, even better have some GUI for waypoint creation, some kind of galactic map that you can access from the holocron like the Travel Terminal one and you can create waypoints from there.

Yeah a GUI is a great idea too, as long as you can still access it through command line.

Yeah, my thinking was to have both... command line stuff can be confusing for newer players but quicker for the more experienced.

In fact the other day I tried to name a WP as I was creating it after typing in the co-ordinates... would be nice if it would work.

Also, when you do /findfriend and it generates a friend wp that is on another planet, I think the waypoint monitor should display it as (Planet) [Friendname], where (planet) replaces the onscreen waypoint arrow.

As it stands now, you have to go into your datapad and look for the new waypoint to find out what planet they are on.

as it stands now, you can put the depth one in there (correct me if i'm wrong) but the format is

/waypoint X Z Y

using your formula

whereas Z is the depth. it is basically how it is on your radar with the implement of JTL needing 3D
