Thread: best pistol for my level
the best pistol is to use. I just switched from an FWG5 to a DX2 but am not sure which is better. The stats are fairly close but I figured I'd try the DX2 because I needed novice Pistoleer to use it.
It all depends on the mob you are fighting.
If they are weak to acid then DX2
Weak to fire then FWG5
Weak to energy then Scout Blaster
Weak to kinetic then Striker Pistol
I reccomend all but the Striker Pistol... doesn't really do much unless that's the only weapon that can do damage. I personally like the DX2 since it does better DP2 overall. Then the scout blaster since it has lower ham costs then the DX2... Mind you since you are a pistoleer you don't really have to worry either way since well... you are not a Teras Kasi who accidentally hit Unarmed Knockdown 2 with an older series vibro knuckers on a mob you could easily kill and incapacited yourself with it because of a -701 HAM cost! *sob*
Sorry, got carried away there...
Also consider the weapon's AP rating. The DX2 is light armor piercing (AP1) and the FWG, Scout Blaster, and most other pistols are AP0....
AP1 vs no armor (AR0) = 25% increase in damage.
AP0 vs AR0 = no change.
AP1 weapon vs light armor (AR1)= no change.
AP0 vs AR1 = 25% reduction to damage.
It doesn't mean the DX2 will always do better, but it's one more piece of the puzzle. If the creature's resistant to everything (and there are plenty of those around), the AP rating on the weapon suddenly gets really important...

That sums it up. Also SR Combat pistols have light armor piercing as well.
Best thing to do is save a little money up and get one of each damage type and put them in your backpack.
I would use the DX2 as a main gun, or the FWG5, but again that is all subject to what you are shooting at. Examine your targets before you shoot if possible, it will help you take them down. Nothing like blasting away with a DX2 and finding out that the creature is highly resistant to acid, and that your FWG5 would have laid the smackdown on it much better.
I thought AP 0 vs AR 1 was a 50% reduction not 25%?
i'd have to double check the armor guide again but i think each level of armor above the weapon rating gives a 50% reduction in damage while each level of weapon AP above armor rating gives a 25% increase in damage.
As a codicil to all this, use the cheapest pistol that will get the job done! By this I mean, use a scout for those one shot kill things like kreetles, gnorts, lesser desert womps, etc. As you use your guns, they wear down, especially if they are sliced, so save wear and tear on your 15k uber DX2 by using the trusty little Scout blaster. Additionally, as you go up in Pistoleer, you will find that some things you can kill are not worth killing with your pistol, i.e., 5 pistol xp and 1 combat xp. That is not worth wear and tear and power-up charges. For those things, switch to your carb or rifle in which you probably have less skill. Then these easy kills suddenly become 40 rifle xp and 10 combat xp, for example. You need combat xp for one of the pistoleer lines, so this is a good way to just build it up a few points at a time enroute to your bigger targets for which you will break out the pistols.

Oops, I mis-remembered. Good catch.

What about speed of the DX2 and FG5? Generally, the ones I've looked at are much slower than my Scout Pistol.
Pistol speed becomes less and less of an issue as you level up and hit the attacks per second cap
