Okay...I'm stuck in the mode where you can use nothing but HTML. How do I get the default message posting back?

Just click on "Graphical Editor".

If you mean that all your new posts are in the HTML editor, go to "My Profile", "Preferences" and put a checkmark next to "Use WYSIWYG Message editor". This does require IE, I don't think it works for Firefox or Opera.
