Has anyone tested which is more effective? Maxing out def or wearing armour? I ask this becasue I duelled a m8 of mine the other day, a master pikeman, Im MBH/Mpist/Rifle4400. I got good weapons and get good results.

Well, I hardly damaged him before he incapped me. I was severely shocked to say the least. He wore no armour, it was all in the defenses.

Thoughts?

Def's only determine how often an attack is going to hit you (your ability to make the attacker miss you)and if they do hit you, what is the chance that it will be for a high damage amount. If your def. is higher than the attackers accuracy, if they do hityou will be the low end of damage the weapon they are usingputs out. Armor is what reduces the amount of damage taken from an attacker.

The other thing is, was your guildy using foods and did he use armor break? If he did and you did not, then that is most likely the reason you lost. All in all it is a toss up. You can somewhat subsitute def's with food. If you can heal I would subsitute def mods with food and consentrate on good offense and buying good armor.

Thanks for that, it's really helpful. He wasn't using foods that I remember. My armour was just my ordinary Chitin, 4400ish kinetic res. I really should have made notes from the logs and learnt from it.

So for me its look for ranged accuracy and melee def tapes I think. I have 4 SP spare so I think a couple of relevent FS boxes may be useful too.

5 ***** for you,

Here's something else. Melee classes (Pike/Swords/etc) have higher mitigation bonuses for damage than ranged does. How many times did he knock you down? That is a key tactic for alot of Pikers. You knock them off their feet, they can't fight back. I know I used to win ALOT of duels against "higher" opponents pre-cu with a Dizzy/KD combo. They kept falling down and I kept beating them up.

He must have knocked me down at least 3 times in the couple of minutes we duelled. I knocked him down twice if I recall correctly. What was happening theretoo for me was I was losing action because of the SAC cost on my weapons - I went for DPS when the CU came out. Got a few 500+ guns but often SAC over 100. I am in the process of re-equipping with low SAC good damage weapons so I can keep it constant.
