so as i was wandering through anchorhead starting the imperial day missions, i see a little guy with blue hair and a starter artisans jacket on. and i get a tell

player x : exscuse me

me : what can i do for you sir?

player x : can you spare some credits for a struggling artist.

first thing that comes to mind is "man, another nub that wants free credits" i examine him and see his CL at 2 and his badges at 0. i was about to brush him off in natural roleplaying fashion, when i had a neat thought. i dont know if others do this but a whole scenario came to me. i decided, although im pretty stingy with my money (since i dont have as much, just like a 1-2 million) and i didnt want to just give it away i came up with something. i had some dialogue with this new guy and discovered hes not a bad guy, just needs some money to get started on his profession (he wants to be a famous droid engineeer).

what i did was roleplay myself as a smuggler and i started to hand him "missions". if he would do certain things or craft me certain items, id pay him, even though i dont need the items or his services. this way he gets a roleplaying feel of the game as well as a more intereactive way of getting missions. sure i like my money, but i had more fun sending him in game mails about how i recently lost a few dozen mineral extractors for jabba and im relying on him to craft me some or else im a goner. i also "loaned" him money in return for a nice droid when hes master. if he couldnt "own up" in a given amount of time, i told him id place his name on some bounty hunter terminals and make sure he was their priority (even had a few BH's drop him some tells randomly to give him a more involved feel).

so now i have a personal goal in the game, to help the new guys by being their interactive mission giver. the new roleplaying is fun, along with a certain satisfaction that these guys are acutally doing things rather than beggin for credits in mos eisly... i dont know if this idea has been passed around, but think about tryint it out, its pretty fun...

that's a great idea. helps get the new players into the game and teaches them to interact with other players by doing something other than begging and getting flamed.

GG, keep it up

That's a great idea, and something to keep us vets happy.

But to really be interesting you could have loads of rp players working together, sending noobs back and forth between you. Have you thought about setting up a guild just for this, or at least an informal group?

Indeed, these newbies are making it harder to RP for me. But maybe its worth the extra effort.

Since I tend to stand around alot in Bestine keeping the peace I meet alot of newbies that ask alot of questions. I have to think up creative IC answers to the questions that aren't as blantent lies as they were before. They ask how to get ST armour? Then I tell them it isimperial issue (as mine was actually issued by the recruiter), and that if you happen to see any on the black market report the sellers to imperial authorities. They ask about clone armour? I tell them the clones destroyed it when reporting for duty as STs, if there is any left it would be in the hands of some criminal ordrunk on a far off planet.

I have caught some flak for supposedly "misleading" newbies from the random non-RP type. But I always tell them I wish I saw more RP when I was a newbie and that I am making up for my odd welcoming.

Brilliant! I will have to start using this tactic. It will certainly let you know which n00bs want to RP and which just want free handouts.
