Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere. I searched the Forums (and the net) as best I could for about half a day, and could never find anything which spoke specifically to my problem.
I'm a Novice Tailor on the Lowca server, and I just put down my first two standard chemical harvesters recently (not personal, not deep-crust). Had two wind generators collecting more than enough power to run them. Paid the maintenance up, good to go supplying my own tailoring needs.
I set the first harvester on an 85% Fiberplast site ...
... and in under three days, it shut down, claiming that the resource was exhausted! Not long after, my wind generators did likewise.
I paid substantial sums for all these installations, and now my only menu option seems to be to destroy them all and start again somewhere else.
Is this standard? I mean, I paid a lot for these machines and now they're all just scrap after less than four days? The surplus maintenance I paid is all just forfeit too, as is the surplus power? How is harvesting cost-effective then?
I could really use some answers on this one folks. Thank you!

Resources shift from time to time averaging from 5-10 days. Check out www.swgcraft.com for resource info. If you find something that just came in, you'll have a couple of days to mine.

Every resource in the game world is in spawn for a certain time, the time varies a bit for the different resource types. For chemicals it is usually 7-9 days after that period it will de-spawn never to be seen again. See this post on www.swgcraft.com for a thorough explanation of how the system works: Link
Your harvesters are not lost for ever, when you empty them use the "destroy" option to reclaim the deed. This will cost 3000 credits (if my memory serves me right) and is deducted from the maintenance pool of the harvester. Pay attention of the popup that appears after you choose to destroy it, if the numbers are in red the harvester will be destroyed for ever, so if the are, add more maintenance to it. If all the numbers are green. Go ahead and continue, a screen will pop up and just type in the quoted numbers. After this the deed will be placed in your inventory.
Hope this answers your questions.

So ... the word "Destroy" written large upon the harvester menu options doesn't actually *mean* Destroy? It actually means Redeed, or Recycle, or Reclaim, or what have you?
Ah.
The Sonyspeak from the game manual (a.k.a. "a tragic waste of beautiful trees") returns, I see.
Thanks all for the insight and the links. I was genuinely distressed, and I wondered how anybody made any money at all harvesting if their expensive machines became jawa salvage after less than a week.
Thanks again for putting me at ease.
