Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right board for noobish questions but there doesn't seem to be a noob forum.

I just came back to the game after playing about a month when it first came out. I need a little helpgetting my HAM stats set up. I have a decent E11 carbine and bought a full set of 75% kinetic Ubese armor. My problem is that I can't get all the armor on. I believe I need to do a stat migration to get everything on and still be functional.

I am a Zabrak and am working toward master marksman with the ultimate goal of becoming a commando. I'm trying to level up fairly quickly and will be fighting mainly creatures to take advantage of the kinetic protection of my armor. As I am just starting out, I don't have a lot of money for Doc buffs and brandy so I will probably go unbuffed most of the time.

1. Does anyone have a recommended setup for my HAM stats. I was thinking I would lower both my health and action pools, increase my mind pool (for lots of healing power) and also increase my secondary stats enough to squeeze into my full set of Ubese. Does this sound like I'm on the right track?

2. When I left the game, stat migrations occurred gradually over time. Now it says that I need an image designer to perform my migrations. Can anyone give me a clue how to locate an image designer. Are there image designer macro bots like there are for dancers and doctors? How much would I expect to pay per migration? Where do image designers typically hang out?

3. I think my armor is unsliced. I've heard that slicing it would reduce the encubrance but that sliced equipment is illegal. Is it wise to get my armor sliced? What happens if I get searched for contraband? Do I have to know anything about slicing to get the armor the way I want it (e.g. do I have options as to which encumbrance values get reduced or is it a general reduction)?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

ok well first off that i know of there are no id bots cause there is alot of clicking involved, you can find the "ID" tents in the larger cities (bestine, Theed, Cnet), 2nd the slice is random, it will either be for encumbrance or effectiveness and the end stats are random also, as far as being searched for contrabad EVERYONE has some sort of contraband either sliced weapons, armor, or even spice that is also random, I have 5 or six sliced weapons on my person at any givein time and when i get inspected they find nothing most of the time, but on rare occasions they do find one and charge you a nominal amout of credits, or just run from them if you dont mind losing imp faction. as far as lowering your health and action to beef-up your mind its all in what you want to do i lowered my heath and action down to 650 each stat and raised all the secondary but i am usually buffed all the time, and that takes money which you dont have a whole lot of.

1. Yes, it does look like you're on the right track. If you ignore buffs, you need to reduce your primary pools (which will be taking less damage due to armor) to balance your secondary stats to get into the armor and still be effective with special costs and regeneration after the encumberance deduction.

2. There are "Salons" in several major cities (Theed andCoronet for sure, but others are scattered around). They are also listed in the planetary map categories. These provide benefits to IDs, and IIRC stat migrations can only be done in those locations (although that requirement may have been removed for Master ID).

You will need to set your stats to the desired level with the "Stat Migration" button, then spend 10 minutes with the ID for the actual migration. Costs vary, and I haven't really looked into that myself so I can't really help on that part.

3. Sliced weapons or armor will have a "this item has been modified by a smuggler" paragraph at the bottom of the description when you examine it. If that's not there, it hasn't been sliced. Smuggler slicing on armor can effect either the resistence (increasing base resists) or the encumberance (lowering the requirements). IIRC, they range from 10 to 35% change. Both the type of slice and the bonus are random, although higher-level smugglers can slice for higher amounts.

Some armorsmiths sell "pre-sliced" armor, this might be another option for you, rather than trusting to luck.

The risk of sliced items really depends on other factors. If you spend a lot of time passing through Imp crackdown cities (Doaba andKaadara are the only two I can remember) you are more likely to get caught. But the success rate of the scans are pretty low. If you have smuggler skills, you are even less likely to get caught.

If you are detected to be carrying "contraband" and you're a covert rebel, I'm pretty sure you get marked overt. This can definitely be a pain if you're not able to take on stormtroopers by yourself. If you're an Imp, I believe the cost is a fine of credits and faction points, although I don't know the numbers. If you're an Imp with a high faction rank (I think Colonel), then you have nothing to worry about, the stormtroopers just apologize for taking up your valuable time.

You might also look for armor that has been experimented on for encumberance. The last year many Armorsmiths have focused on resists since just about everyone is getting buffed, but there has been an interest from lots of players wanting to fight unbuffed and therefore needing low encumb armor. Some AS are now making lots of good low encumb armor. You can also try wearing only portions of your armor to reduce encumberance, like just the helmet, jacket, boots, and gloves. This will give you good coverage without adding extra HAM costs. You should also look into some foods to help you recover from specials. Shop on the bazaar for goods under 6k, you should be able to find some singles of brandy, canape, ahrisa, vercupti, pixie, and muon for pretty cheap. If you do want buffs eventually, use your first amount of cash on them, you will make the money back fast as well as more money for everything else.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I think I'm going to go with an unbuffed strategy to start. I'll get my armor sliced and maybe replace some pieces if the slice goes the wrong way. Once I'm satisfied with the armor, I'll get my stats migrated. I'm thinking I'll keep my regen stats at the bare miminum to get into the armor and boost the special cost stats up a bit so that I can still do some specials without getting incapped every fight. I will also reduce my Health and Action pools and boost my mind pool so I will have enough mind to do heals during fights.

Once I get enough money to start buffing, I'll migrate a big chunk of mind and split it between Health, Action and all the special cost secondaries.

Thanks again!
