Thread: Harvester Droid

I recently purchased a harvester droid, but cannot figure out how to make it harvest. I am a scout, so that's not an issue. All I can make it do is follow me. Looking at the stats, it does have a 101 to harvesting, and the radial menu has 2 options for harvesting: setting what I want to harvest (hide, meat, bone) and program harvest. When I click the second one, the droid shows a ? above it's head. Any idea how to make this work? Also, anyone have a macro so the droid go to and harvest what you just killed automatically? Thanks in advance.

After you select the option to program and the ? comes up, say a command in spatial that the droid will use. (eg. "H"). You will then see a ! appear over the droid, meaning it has learnt the command (this is the same for most pet commands).

So now when you want to harvest, select the corpse and say your command. Also instead of spamming your pet commands in spatial you can use /tellpet (eg. /tellpet H).

The ? means it's waiting to hear the command you want to trigger it.

Single letters might not be a good idea, they seem to work poorly in /tellpet. I just used "get", then made a macro that had "/tellpet get" and put it on my hotbar. When the creature goes down, I hit the macro, then go onto the next.

Do the droids still harvest while you are fighting?Or do you have to be non agro to have the droid harvest?

They harvest while you are fighting.
I found it best to wait for the droid to start moving before switching target, which might take a second. Otherwise it would go after the one you were then attacking.
Although that might have just been lag.

Those hints worked great and my droid now harvests properly. Thanks for all the help!

Nope, you have to wait a sec, usually once it starts moving towards the one selected, then you can highlight the next one, just wait until it actually harvests before getting it to harvest the new one.

Also, I find the easiest way is to macro a toolbar button for /deathblow; /loot; /tellpet follow; /tellpet harvest; all in one, as it'll work for any foe's ending and if the droid is grouped with you it will get aggro'd occassionally, this you can just hit every few seconds to get 'em to follow so you can take the MOB off your droid and/or heal it.

PS. For /tellpet to work correctly the command has to be more than 3 characters in length.

Also, I recommend not inviting your harvester to your group. The ungrouped droid won't draw aggro. You should also know that Area of Effect attacks tend to make the droid very tricky to use (rancor use them a lot) and even though they are supposed to be immune, they can still be hit by AE bleeds and will try to run every time the bleed ticks. you just need to be handy with your Follow Me and Stay commands. Park the droid a short distance away while killing AE attack critters.

Has anyone written a guide to using a harvester droid.

i purchased on of these in the hope that i could kill away and leave the droid to do the harvesting for me however thats not the case, i have to tell the droid to harvest the meat etc for each individual kill. which is a waste of timeas i may as well just harvest the resources myself.

can anyone offer any tips or a guid on the subject,

thanks

Not sure there's a specific guide for harvest droids, but I do know that there are lots of posts scattered around these boards on this subject. It would be nice and has been suggested that there be an /areaharvest skill, possibly for master rangers. But its only an idea right now and not even sure if it would be an option for a droid. The real benefit of using a harvesting droid at this point in time, is to get the extra percentage harvest that the droid will get for you. Get a droid w/ a 109 harvesting bonus. It will harvest more (albeit just a handful more units) than what you can harvest on your own.

On my harvesting missions, I'll deploy my droid, pop some vegash when needed, and have a macro set to /tellpet fetch for him to harvest my target. I'll drop one animal, click my macro button wait a second for it to register w/ my droid, then 'Tab' to the next target, usually by the time i kill it, my droid is finished harvesting the previous corpse and ill send it after that one before switching targets. Works well since you automatically have the corpse targeted when you kill it. Still a 'one at a time' thing, but is really the only option at this point that I know of.I'm a rifleman too tho, so it may not work this well for you if you have a profession that wont allow you to sit back and pick'em off one at a time.

These are easier to use then it seems up front.

First, make sure you set the target harvest before you go hunting for something different. For example, if you have been hunting HIDE for the last few days and are heading out on a MEAT hunt, call the droid in town before you leave and change the target to MEAT. Next, create a macro, I called mine "droidharvest" or something like that. The macro text should contain only the harvest command for the droid. For example, if your droid harvest command is programmed to "droidharv" then your macro looks like this:

/tellpet droidharv;

Save that macro. Then open your Options screen (CTRL-O). Go to the keymap, click on the Custom tab on top. The "droidharvest" macro will be listed on the left with no entry on the right. Choose a control key combo you currently do not use, such as the CTRL-X that I chose. Highlight the "droidharvest" macro in the list, then click "Rebind". Press CTRL-X (or whatever combo you choose), and click OK. Save it all and close Options.

Now, go hunting with your droid out. As soon as you have a dead body, hit your CTRL combo hotkey, wait a second for the droid to start moving, then move on to your next kill. The droid will drive/walk to wherever the corpse is, so don't worry if you kill something 40m or 50m away. The droid will return to you just fine.

Also, do NOT group with your harvest droid. It will get attacked and run like hell a lot. If you are NOT grouped with the droid, it will be largely ignored by whatever critter you are hunting/harving.

In addition, though the specs on your droid were not posted, I highly suggest an R3 chassis with 6 of the best harv modules you can get in it. My droid has a harv module rating of 98, and it provides a nice boost to harv quantities as well as saving me TONS of time while hunting solo.

Lastly, using one of these droids while group hunting for harvests will piss people off since the corpses will dissappear rather quickly after the droid harvs it. These are best used in solo hunts. They work great from Novice Scout all the way to Master Ranger since they DO reduce the amount of time it takes to harvest once you setup a harvest macro hotkey.

Hope it helps!
