When people first start out I think they tend to go for a master of a basic prof. It's not necessary, but for new players it can be a little bit of learning... see how things work in combat. You will never be able to "own" anything with Master brawler and Master marksman. It can be a foundation for advanced professions perhaps. Although with the CU if you'll notice, a lot of the specials granted in say Pistolstree can be found again in the Carbines and Rifles trees. I believe the same is with brawler, but I really haven't looked at brawlermuch.
My personal opinions are: for commando, skip master brawler. There doesn't even seem to be a real reason for the unarmed tree prereq, much less all of brawler. Master marksman used to be a prereq for BH and for Commando. Having master marksman was seen as largly useless for either elite profession. Which I'm sure is why it was removed as prereq. Also, as I said, a lot of the specials are redundant. There are new specials at the master box, and a little defense, so could still be useful. I personally wouldn't bother. If youend up decidingto do Bounty Hunter, you would be much better off having master BH and another master of an elite profession. Much better specials, better defense, better damage output... all around better choice.
