Ive been playing this game since about 3 weeks after launch. I have a Master lvl jedi already. I am getting ready to undergo the Armorsmith profession. I tried the Shipwright profession but all in all I think it was a bomb. Just to many things not balanced with it.
My question to you the players is where is the fun factor in SWG? I mean does anyone really think that Jabbas Palace was fun. I have done that about 3 times now and it was no better the right time than the last time.
I use to lay another mmoprg EnB and altho it was a short lived game it deffinaly had its fun factors. At every holiday they had events that were down right run. At halloween we had goblins to go and chase down. And after we did a sort of quest for them We got pimpkins to shoot at eachother. That was very short lived but it was dam fun. Now all my buddes that just left swg for that other MMO let them know they are having snowball fights. I am like what, and yes they have santa snoman and other christmas things all around and they can partake in Christmas events. The snowball fights would only last a few days and they do have to buy them. But to me that sounds like a lot of fun. Heck I bet they will even have a white christmas. Chasing down some wookie and going to a wookie tent for 5 min of conversation. While somewhat interesting did not have any real fun factor to it.
I know the game has a lot of problems and I am a big SWG nut. If it were not for that very reason I would have been gone a long time ago. But is that enough anymore? When a customer buys some merchandise he is getting some value for his money. I have had the same value for sometime in SWG, And I dont see it getting any better. The combat revamp may be a small step in the right direction. But it is only a small step but understandible a huge undertaking by the dev team. When the end game is near and the GCW is finally here for some reason then I will be getting excited.
What I wanna know is why you still play SWG and what is your fun factor. Maybe I have missed something over the past year and a half that I would find fun. If you have ideas lets get this rolling I am off work for the next two weeks and plan on spending a lot of time in game and I am looking for fun.

Hmm, that is a real good question ! I'm playing this game for a long time too and i'm still playing it a few hours every day. What do i have fun with ? A lot of little things
When i start my merchant toon, i'm always happy when i get a mail saying that another cabinet/house/torch/harvester/droid has been sold for a few credits. I like searching the rare pets in this game (mainly on Dath/Endor) and helping new players who got lost on these unfriendly planets and are being attacked by a few large spiders ... I enjoy collecting meet for our guild doc, hide/bone for our soon-to-be ranger. I like crafting little (and large) things for our guild-members, being happy when they place these cool "Free standing lamp" in their houses ... Last week i found (by accident) the Tusken "Village" SW on Tatooine. Sure, it took only five minutes to clean it up, butdiscovering such places are fun too
These little things keep me playing every day
Sure, i'd like to do the Warren/Geno Lab/Corvette with friends, but these are rather occasional events.

The best way to start is to cancel account and /delete SWG from harddrive

The best thing to do is to go back to console games.
If you rely on others to make for fun you in a game then that's a problem.
Either create in game events, do something nonrewarding like help others or whatever your imagination can come up with and maybe you'll find some fun.
SOE did a great job with this game and for those that can't see that I am truly amazed.

There's a flip side to this coin, all the people that have had major problems with this game and bugs go unanswered for months and months and months. Stuff That is pushed out to live that should NEVER have made it out of test center go live anyway. They Rely on Players to do Q&A For them instead of having a inhouse testing team. Its pretty sad, but only reason i keep playing is cause i keep saying to myself "its only 50 cents a day, its only 50 cents a day.........)

Sure, i'm using /bug several times a week and i've written several rants in this forum too. But doesn't it come to one decision at the end ? Should i use my time to be angry about *a lot* of bugs or should i use it to enjoy the little things in this game ?
For myself i prefer using the little spare time i have to enjoy the *many* things that work in this game.
PS: Mikedealer, sorry if that sounds like a personal affront against you, that wasn't the intent

being a veteran of one of SOE's other monsters ( Everquest) and after playing SWG for about 6 months now, i too am winding down on the fun factor here. i have accounts at do crafting ( Master WS/Smuggler, and Doc/Combat ) am now grinding my butt off for village FS exp so maybe, sometimes next year i might be able to wield a lightsaber. It took me a long time to finally understand SOE's fascination with the whole "grind" thing. Money. plain and simple. its cheaper to make one quest with some kind of moderate reward at the end that takes you months to "grind" away at than it takes for them to make 20 shorter quests with decent rewards. the longer you play the more money they make and the less "uber" usefull stuff they add the less they need worry about "gameBalance". that being said i must say that many things in this game are way faster and easier than EQ ever was. grinding AA exp in EQ was hell and Booooring. grinding to make master Weaponsmith was relatively painless and short. true im going nuts wiht basically mastering my chosen combat profession about 50-60 freakin times over to get my lame 6 bars in FS exp ( that will really do me no good whatsoever in the end game cause the jedi skills will override them and half of the FS skills dont do anythign usefull anyway) when i was told that the jedi revamp had beeen changed to a total quest based system.....quests? where are the quests? the old holocron system was cake compared to this even is if was just as boring. unfortuanatly about the time i was tough enough and knowledgable enough that i could hunt for my own holocrons they got turned off in expectation of the new uber Jedi revamp. all i want is to wield a lightsaber. thats pretty much it. doesnt have to be a good one. doesnt need to let me one shot anything. after i get onei will probably be disapointed with it. but thats pretty much my fun factor goal right now. i want one of those stupid glowy sticks to use and attract bounty hunters with
lol. once i reach that goal ( sometime in about mid 2006 at the rate im going , hehe ) then i guess i will need to find a new goal to go after. right now being able to get some revenge on those dang nightsisters that keep blowing up my rides over and over is some moderate fun too. though their loot still sucks. well once they do drop better stuff it will most likely be something new to put in my house anyway. best idea SOE ever came up with to "give the peeons something they will consider loot, but dont give them anything they can use in combat, it will be unbalancing. give them something to clutter up thier house so they cant hold anythign usuefull thier either" a rug, a statue, a gong, a painting, a plant, a cabinet, a bed?, chairs and couches, a luke skywalker wanted poster, a 4 piece wierd sculpture, a flag representing thier faction, some broken garbage that looks kind of cool, head of some dead critter that we didnt even get to kill,

I also played ENB, I got ENB two months after its launch and played till the very end.
My name on ENB was hanshlomo and I was on the orion server.
I USED to enjoy SWG, back when I was new to the game and it seemed like there was all sorts of stuff to do.
Now its just.. "Oh great, theres that place again, now I have to go to mining outpost, great, now I have to do more stuff"
Im simply sticking around hoping something great happens, (CR) but its almost time for the Auto Assault Beta to start, and I am fully prepared to leave SWG in favor of this new (and first of its kind) MMO. Plus, I am more than ready to see the greatly anticipated CR be a huge flop like a large portion of this game, Im sure SWG's fate will be very similar to that of ENB's very, very soon.

SWG's fun factor is also its...Un-fun factor. This is that pretty much the entire game is manipulated by the players; I played EnB and Anarchy Online. Anarchy Online had volunteer players, like SWG's CSRs that would occasionally start events, referee for player-run events, even wander the streets of cities roleplaying as repeating characters.
Unfortunately, SWG relies on the players for everything, and the only staff members just look at bug reports, occasionally dropping Stormtroopers and Tusken Raiders at events.
Pex does a great job, but is undermanned. SOE needs to put more people on events, and maybe SWG would become a lot more fun.

Im a vet of MMORPG's having played them from the early days of UO and its predecessor Meridian 59. Now the thing is MMORPG stands for Massivley Multi Player Role Playing Game. The secret to enjoying the game is in the last 3 letters though. Role Playing Game. That means you choose a role for yourself and play it your way developing it in your own way. The folks that create all these games give you the tools to play the adventure your own way and to interact with others and live out the "Star Wars Fantasy" more fully than watching the films or playing with the toys.
However if you dont put the effort in you wont enjoy it, it is that simple. Other games may give away special snow balls and goblins to coincide with Real World events but lets face it Snowmen, Christ-Mass and Hallowean have SFA to do with Star Wars so really why should they be any part of the Star Wars fantasy setting? Remember how tightly Lucas likes to keep the continuity in all things Star Wars? I really cant see him ever saying oh yeah sure put Santa Claus in Star Wars that would be cool while we are at it lets have a Nativity Scene in Coruscent and we can get Darth, Palpatine and Obi-wan to play the three wise men while Luke can be Jesus and Chewie the Donkey.
All MMORPG's are essentially the same. People love them in Beta and have massivley high hopes they get launched with a ton of bugs and people whine after a couple of months of people who dont understand the term Role Playing playing the games to "complete" them they grow bored and start moaning about lack of content. 6 months down the line the number of people "completeing" the game reaches the first saturation point and the complaints grow to the point they start influencing everyone that casually reads those sort of posts and it becomes the over riding mindset amongst those who do not understand what it means to RP. These people happen to be in the majority as most folk that will play a PC RPG have never tried the pen and paper version and properly used their imagination to invent their own worlds.
As a disclaimer please dont feel insulted or that im in anyway belittleing people for not role playing or whatever since i tend 75% of the time to never bother myself in SWG and often find myself getting bored for the very reasons I have mentioned above. The thing is though im also Compulsive Obsesive so MMORPG's appeal to my behaviour pattern.
Still the bottom line is this its a Role Playing Game without developing your character and having a large number of similar people to interact with all your doing is going through the motions of learning the game mechanics with a vaque nebulous idea of reaching an end goal which simply doesnt exists in SWG.
Oh and all MMORPG's are the same mark my words in 6 - 12 months the same complaints will be popping up about Wow and EQ2. My suggestion is whenever you start to get bored take a break play a bunch of single player games or FPS and then come back to the game and always make sure you group with people and interact with people other wise your playing the game the wrong way.
Im not getting into the systems in SWG being unconductive to blah blah or bugged and blah blah that happens with every game these days and although its sloppy seems to be the way all games are going to continue to be.
'course thats just my opinion and as I said I know im going to get 1 stared and calledsomething unsavoury for it.

i know what you mean about fun.. here's some things i've found fun over the time since launch for me, in no particular order
1. pvp.. ignore the trash talk, never respond to it.. if you see it just walk away 64m, and talk in group chat.
2. before that the most fun i had was pulling nightsisters to the imp prison on dath and getting atst's and troops to help me kill them.. the tough ns's heh
3. creature handler.. hunting for rares is frustrating, never found any, but it's like the lottery, once you find what you're looking for it's great. finding the best pets for a given situation, then using them.. naming them even.. when bored making little pet parades even.. ch is easily the most fun prof i've tried so far
4. decorating your hall/house.. shopping is pure hell to look for the stuff you want to decorate with.. but once the interior starts taking shape.. then every so often you find something to add to it, finding a great deal in the bazaar or vendors, a quest item, making creative things like fireplaces out of different items.. trophy cases..
5. badge collecting.. location badges gathering masses of them.. racing, mastering something then saying "oh yeah i get a badge for master! wewt" and so on.. and the event badges are cool too
6. item collecting.. my thing is crystals and crystal-like objects like the glowing orb, avian egg etc. others try to get all available paintings, every weapon, rare items.. it can be very rewarding
7. finally trying out other professions. for the longest time i was master med, master ch, nov ent, scout and some pistols.. the first change was the biggest/hardest, i did one holocron, commando.. using that flamethrower sure was fun especially finally getting the dots.. then expanded to see what other profs could do.. so far mastered pistols, bh, commando, marksman, rifles, tkm.. i guess as jedi you've probably done this before, but i hope trying new stuff like armorsmith goes well for you..
at one point before trying new profs, i spent half an hour duelling with a friend in jedi knight ii, and i said i had more fun doing that than the previous six months in swg, and to me fps's will always be more fun as in 'riotous adrenaline fun', pvp in swg coming close behind.. but i can't say swg isn't fun to play or i wouldn't have been here since launch either.. overall i think this is more an 'enjoyment/familiarity' kind of fun, good for hours, not 30min of duelling etc. not to mention the time you can spend just chatting with ppl in a cool chat environment.. sometimes when i get tired of the game i'm fine with the fact that at that time swg is just a great place to chat, way better than webchat, IMs, IRC, and so on (cept for the chat system itself unfortunately). i mean, how can an emoticon ever replace swg's /rofl ? it can't. but i digress..
anyway hope these little stories help
