What does the Peace button do when you're fighting? If it causes me to stop fighting but not the aggressor then what good is it? The "peace" sign didn't work in the 60's either.

And what is up with that smell?

I use the "Peace" thing to avoid attacking things I don't want to attack... it also makes it easier to get out of combat once you break line of sight to whatever has you aggro'ed or get out of range.

Also, if say, you /taunt something, but the /taunt doesn't stick, you'll find yourself in combat with something out of range, so /peace will bring you back out of combat.

Other than that, yeah, it isn't much use.

Also, you will need to peace should some Ranger be so stupid as to attempt to perform "rescue" on you.

What that does is this -

Monster aggros you. You are important to the mission. Ranger says I will rescue you, hit peace. You peace, the Ranger hits rescue and the monster breaks combat with you and aggros the Ranger. Cool for you, sucks for the Ranger. About no Rangers use it as we hate monster assisted suicide. Unless we are saving Master Docs who can rez.
