Thread: A Tactical Ranged Combat System
What you say? Paintball in Galaxies? The game with lasers and rocket launchers as weapons? The game where if you can't kill it, it's not worth shooting at?
Yes.
My idea for a Paintball tournament or regular session is based on several principles...
Strict rules need to be enforced.
NO-DEATHBLOWS! EVER!
Only paintball-issued weapons can be used.
NO BUFFS OR ARMOR!!!!
Template use is restricted.
NO HEALING!!!
All stats need to be the same, on all sides of the battle.
No deathblows is an easy one. Obviously, in true paintball, no major injuries are sustained. When incapacitated, a player is considered OUT, must equip a robe or duster that signifies this player as out and must leave the battlefield. If they continue to engage enemy players, their team receives a warning. If engagement continues, the player's team is entirely registered as OUT, and the other team wins.
Paintball-issued weapons are weak, equal weapons that are all used against eachother on the battlefield, probably CDEF weapons. This is to ensure that tactics are used, as opposed to whoever has the most 1337 weapon.
No buffs or armor compliments the fact that paintball-issued weapons are all weak, and the same damage type. If we have a bunch of people fighting eachother with CDEF weapons, the battle will NOT END if everyone has 3000 buffs and 90% resists comp armor with PSGs and Synthsteak. (Naturally, food and drink are considered buffs.)
Template use is restricted so the weapons are equal. If a bunch of people are fighting eachother with CDEF rifles, and one of the teams has two master riflemen, guess who's going to win. Basically, as all regular (non-looted) CDEF weapons are equal, a person must have a maximum of master marksman, and no elite profession with their weapon.
No healing is so that the max number of hits is universal. This means that if all stats are maxed out primaries and absolute minimum secondaries, whoever heals themselves will rule the battlefield. This can't be accepted in fairness to all sides.
All stats need to be the same for realism and enforcement of rules. All primaries must be maxed out, and secondaries must be minimized, to lower regeneration, and raise HAM costs. It also allows a maximum HAM amount to be known. (Naturally, an ID would be present for wide-scale tournaments in order to adjust/re-adjust HAM pools.)
If any team member is a wookie or similar species, there will be a set "kill damage" amount. (If A does 1000 damage to B, whose max health is 1250, if the kill damage is 1000, B is out) For example...
Team One is made up of Players A and B.
Team Two is made up of Players C and D.
Their HAM primaries are all reported as 1000.
There are four players left on the battlefield.
SCENARIO ONE
Player A fires Body Shot and hits for 100 damage on Player C.
Player C fires Health Shot 1 and hits for 400 damage.
Player A fires Overcharge Shot 2 and hits Player B's health pool for 900 damage on Player C. Player C is incapacitated, stands up and equips an OUT duster, leaving the battlefield.
Player D has finished off Player B, and fires Overcharge 2 at Player A, doing 1000 Action Damage. Player A is incapacitated, and Team 2 wins the battle.
SCENARIO TWO
Player A fires Overcharge Shot 2 at Player D, for 1200 damage. However, Player D is not incapacitated. A referee spots this in the combat log and sets Player D as OUT. Players A and B gang up on Player C, winning. Player C doesn't forgive Player D for over a month.
SCENARIO THREE
Player A fires Health Shot 1 at Player C for 800 damage. Player C fires Mind Shot 1 at Player A for 750 damage.
Player A retreats from the battle, and due to calculations from the recorded regen pools, Player C regenerates 50 damage and hides in a nearby bank before being confronted by Player B. Player B fires Body Shot at Player C for 450 damage, but Player C is not incapacitated. It is proven that Player C was not buffed, and reasoned that Player C used a stimpack or the /healdamage command while hiding in the bank. Player C is registered as OUT.
As you can see, cheating is spotted in the last two scenarios due to the fact that all stats are universally equal.
Now, the mechanics of the game...
The Paintball game would take place in a static city and the outlying areas, ONLY within the city limits (if players receive the system message "You have now left ", they must turn back into the city limits, which is the designated battlefield.
All players would use a weapon they are not elitely proficient in. For example...
Player A is a Master Smuggler, Master Pistoleer and Master Marksman (just to cap speed). This means that he is a devastating force with pistols, but only mildly powerful with Rifles and Carbines. Therefore, Player A must use a Rifle or Carbine Paintball Gun during the game.
However, let's say that twelve Master Riflemen/Master CM/Master Marksmans wanted to play a game amongst eachother. The rules would be that they either all used a Rifle Paintball Gun, or none used a Rifle at all.
Now, a major issue is initiating combat. Unless one team is all overt rebels and one of overt imperials, they can't all attack eachother.
Therefore, both teams would start at different parts of the battlefield. However, before proceeding to the battlefield, they will start at the Rally Point, probably a player structure, and all players will /duel all players on the other team. This way, all players will be able to attack eachother (with the exception of teammates). If any player uses the /endduel command, they will be registered as OUT.
Each team member will wear a uniform. If one of the team members is a Wookie, they will wear a uniform of the same colors. In a Skirmish, team members may wear a simple Blue Team or Red Team uniform. In a tournament, they must wear a unique team uniform. (For example, a team in a tournament is called Hellbringers, whose uniform is Red and Orange. They must wear this uniform instead of a standard Red or Blue uniform.)
Players will be set at a registered weapon and only be allowed to use that weapon's specials, along with Ranged Support specials. For example, Player A chooses to fight with a Paintball Pistol. This means that Player A will only be able to use the following:
Aim, Body Shot 1 & 2, Dive Shot, Health Shot 1, Kip Up Shot, Overcharge Shot 1 & 2, Point Blank Area 1, Point Blank Single 1, Roll Shot, Suppression Fire 1, Threaten Shot, Tumble to Kneeling, Tumble to Prone, Tumble to Standing and Warning Shot.
Please, let me know what you think of my system here. Naturally, it presents problems, such as the fact thatonly Marksmen can use it, but I still hopethat, with refinementit can provide a fun opportunity for tactical combat in SWG.
And thanks in advance for your opinion.

I think its a great idea, but Paintball doesnt give a very Star Warsy ish feel.
Naming it Gladitorial Games would be better, they would be hosted by Jabba the Hutat predesignated areas, and you can only sign up with high Jabba faction.
Yeah, well, I was using Paintball as more of a metaphor...Was going to let players decide on the name themselves for events, but Gladitorial Games? Hm...Maybe I'll rip your idea off on the next document I put together on this.
Thanks for the input. ![]()
