Thread: Is Teras Kasi Artist/Commando a good character idea?

I'm just getting back into SWG after a long hiatus (over a year) and am actually interested in playing again. I started my character out as a scout, picked up marksman, and now I have Master Marksman and Scout 4041, as well as Medic 1000,Artisan 1000 and Creature Handler Novice.


So my plan had been to master Bounty Hunter, and get some skill in Creature Handler. From reading those boards, though, it sounds like both professions are kind of broken, or at least not as fun to play, especially in PvP. So I was thinking of dropping Scout all together and going for a combo Commando/Teras Kasi Artist character. Do these classes complement each other, or will there be inefficient wastes of talent in there. I'm interested in being a solid warrior, more than anything. Thanks

tkm is very good but commando is not worth it in pvp i suggest grab fencer or rifleman with tkm

Well, Commando is horrible in PvP for the most part- we get lucky every once and a while... Anyways, Commando is just plain fun (think flamethrowers), even if it IS broken also, lol. The Master Commando/ TKM template is common for commandos since it gives us some good defences so we last a little longer in PvE and PvP. Also, the Combat Rebalance will put us back on par with the other class (basically making us the same as roughly two elite profs, as it should be :smileywink, if yo ucan wait a few years . Either way it's your decision: PvP or PvE?

The problem is that no one ever uses the comando portion.... you will get lazy and use TKM 99% of the time.

TKM/Commando is a great PvE profession, but is probably lacking if you like to PvP.


I have very little trouble soloing Giant Dune Kimo's and the various Krayt dragons with that template. I use TK to apply Intimidate to the target, then use Center of Being, and then switch to my flame thrower use Flame Single 2 and Flame Cone on the target to add the flame DOTS, and then switching to my VK and use Body Hit 1 until the flame DOT wears off, and starting over with Itimidate, C.O.B., flame, Body Hit 1 etc... the DOT of the flamer really helps knock down the health of the big guys while you can chip away at them.

Cool, thanks all for the info. Some of my guild mates suggested rifleman/TKA as well, but the though of wielding those big nasty weapons is pretty cool. I'd like to do both PvE and PvP, but probably more PvE. I just thought of commando because I already have master marksman and don't really want to give it up.

I had a lot of fun doing commando.You candeal a lot of damage and it gives a fire DOT, and to top it off the encumberence is really low.You don'teven have to be buffed to spam specials (even wearing armor). You will have fun doing it as long as a bit of grinding is OK for you.

I had a LOT of fun with my flamethrower but Rifleman/TKM is the better combo.. AP3 ftw!

I was a M.Commando and it was fun, lots of flames and stuff for the firebug in me, it kicked butt for PvE, but was horrible PvP. It was just to slow and I have a great sliced flamer. I cooked krayts without any problem, but someone with any rifleman skills would drop me like a rock in PvP.


If you decide to give this a run, just work the Flame tree and use the rest of the tree skill points elsewhere. I still have the flame tree, but will soon be dropping it and some marksman trees so that I can add TKA to my list which allready includes M.Brawler and M.Fencer.

Check out my template in my sig, its very good in pve, and can avoid incap via FD in pvp. Works nicelly in pve on occassion also.

Was my first profession combo (TKA and commando build) It was incredibly fun when DOTs used to do full damage every tick, and mitigation wasn't in game so that you didn't take 800 points of damage froma gnort while holding a ranged weapon...


Now, it stinks (imo).

Just go rifle, commando is a waste of time at the moment, especially in PVP. It's more of a novelty that wears off quickly once someone spams headshot3 on you a few times.
