Hello, my computer lags real bad in the cities and all, most of the time. Is there some downloadable, free, program I can get that decreases lag and hurts nothing else?

I have seen some that claim to reduce lag but as far asI know this isnt technically possible.

First you need to find out if your problem is actually Lag or a low FPS (framerate). The ingame connection monitor can tell you this, it can be activated from the options menu. I have an average level computer based on modern technology,a good Ping for me is 100 and FPS is 20. Although these will vary depending on how many players are around you and where you are.

Lagcould be blamed on the server but is most likely your connection and internet hardware. A ping of over200 will indicate this.

Low FPS (lower than 15) is most likely your computer hardware. Memory, processor and graphics card can all have a big effect on this.

Can you post more details about your hardware? Computer specification and connection speed would help

Hey!
Nothing wrong with a 200 ping!
I hate the international latency

Ioften get 200 butI think that is mostly due to me being in the UK. Sometimes my ping can go over 400 but 200 is usually around the timeI start blaming my hardware

I heard a CSR taliking about sites that claim they have programs that reduce lag but they contain trojans/viruses

Btw more ram = less lag i got 1 gig and my machine is running like a dream ever since my 512 ram days

Laptops are almost impossible to upgrade and even if you can find someone willing and able to do it then it would cost so much that it would be cheaper to buy a new computer. So basically more ram isnt a good option.

What I suggest is to have as much free space as possible on your hard drive and make sure you arent doing anything else while playing, such as looking at websites or downloading files.

Turning all the graphics settings to the lowest possible will help aswell

If you want to reduce lag when moving through a busy city, try zooming in to first person view (use mouse wheel)and looking at your feet, use the map to find your way through. Having less people and objects visible to you will help reduce lag

Im not sure what prices are like where you are but your best option is to buy a new computer, not a laptop but if that isnt possible then the suggestions above are allI can think of.

Maybe someone else here can suggest something else

More RAM is definitely the best tip, 1GB seems to do it for most people.

Also, something I just figured out the other day is to set the AGP window size in your BIOS as large as your video card can handle (i.e. 256MB for a 256MB video card.) This controls how much stuff gets burst transfered to your video card at a time. Don't go larger though as that has a tendancy to make lag worse and crash your system (figured that out too )

acctualy finding RAM for my laptop was fairly easy and cheap, not as cheap as it is for desktop but not nearly as expsnive as a new machine
