Why is there a 1 character per server rule? And is that gonna be changed soon? I mean i'd gladly give up my right to create a character on 1 server to make a character on a server i'm already established on.

well the mian reason, and it is a good one is to stop people from creating 10 characters on one server and buildings 100 houses etc.
basically to keep the game from becomming a huge lag fest
also so you have to buy another account to create an extra character = more money for SOE

I think two wouldn't cause too many problems, would be good to have a crafter and a fighter - atm trying to have some fun crafting and PvPing is hard, Im seriously considering giving up one or the other - but I dont want to

In a game that is so dependent on player-economy (no npc-vendors) and crafters, it would be wrong to be allowed several characters on one server. Everybody would just create a fighter, one or two elite crafters, maybe a doc/entertainer and be totally self-sufficient. Just transfer items back and forth from one character to another. This would kill economy. Crafters would be reducued to equipment suppliers for your fighter, and not sell stuff to all sorts of people (as most people would have their own crafter)
I think the one-character-policy is a good one as it encourages player interaction.

The 10 chars and 100 houses is easily correctable. Just be able to have a max of 2 characters perserver. 1 main and 1 secondary. The main one can plant houses and the secondary can't plant houses/harvestors/factories.
There is no way to just make an uber crafter. Being a great crafter takes experience and extensive knoledge of what resources are best in what.

SWG is a 2 character per server game, once you finish your FS grind and become a padawan a second character slot opens for you.

True, but that takes how long?
I think the best way to do it would be like a few posters above me said, only your main can place structures and such.
(of course, if you wanted a crafter, you would need to have your main as the crafter so you wouldn't have to switch back and forth all the time to place harvestors and such)

also, what about those of us that don't want to have a jedi? should we be forced to have a jedi in order to have a second character just because we can't/won't buy a second account? Makes me think that the devs almost WANT jedi-wars...
