Just a second ago i was looking in the game files, bored out of my mind. I saw my account name in the form of a folder nad opened it. There, nicely there were all my chars names and their servers. I wondered what would happen if i changed one of the names. I tried and started up the launchpad and saw that it changed my characters name. I imediately changed it back knowing it was probably something i shouldn't do. I was just wondering if it would change my name in game or if it just apears on my screen or what. And ofcourse, if it is against the EULA.

The actual info in on the server side.
Editting the client side files won't do anything (will go back to originalvalues when you log on).

hmmm renaming is iffy
im sure its purely cosmetic and doesnt acctualy change your name as the server sees it
it might even just be for launchpad use
interesting ill have to look into this
what file had your character name in it? i went through all of mine and found some other intersting stuff but no name

ok i found the file
called characterlist_youraccountname.txt
seems to only be used by launchpad, at the character selection screen my name was the same as it always was

them folders are named to store your marcos and stuff in instead of keeping them on the server otherwise they have no use so renaming a folder if anything would cause the loss of use of your marco's you had already madetill you changed it back.
