I killed both of them easily and looted them but now when I try to use the waypoint disc I looted, I get a system message that says. "You must first loot that object before extracting any information out of it"

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Log out and back in...by the time you appear you'll probably have already killed them. Wait a few seconds for a system message that tells you that you should loot the sith's bodies. Then loot them. If that doesn't work, log out and back in (it took my third attempt) and Loot (not Loot All) and wait for the message before you actually loot.

Just don't panic, you can keep logging out and back in to get it again.

I have seen someone else report this. Drop the disk in your house and then pick it up again. You should then be able to read the disk.

What do I do if this happens the second part of the quest, where I go to the sith camp. I looted them and should get the coordinates for the village but instead I get the fantastic message that I must firts loot that object before extracting any information out of it. This is absolutely frustrating!
