Everyone knows by now that you unlock 6 branches to getJedi Initiate- do all 6 have to be held simultaneously to get the ball rolling? Or is it just unlock 6 different FS branches at any time?

Actually, it appears not everyone knows about this - including you.

You do not 'unlock 6 branches to get initiate'. You must COMPLETE 6 full branches to qualify for the second old man visit. Simply unlocking the branches i not enough, you have to acquire the xp to fill the branches too.

Once you complete 6 branches, you can NOT surrender any unless you fill a branch to replace it first...

For example:

If i want to drop the ranged accuracy branch (all 4 boxes) but i'm already in/past the trials, i have to unlock a 7th branch, gain all the xp to fill it, train in all 4 boxes, and then i can surrender ranged accuracy.

Wow, good to know...

So someday, very soon, I'll need to drop either Master Swordsman or Master Doctor in order to get any more FS boxes

Any idea what the caps are on FS XP? I'd like to hang onto my masteries as long as possible.

It seems to be these isnot completely true. You don't have to complete 6 branches.

I believe it was stated thet you must to train 24 boxes. It is your chocewhich to train.

For example you may unlock all the combat and reflexes lines (8) and train only 3 of boxes in each line (less exp).

Or you can unlock6 lines and train all 4 boxes in each (less time to unlock).

I'm 99% sure it's 6 FULL branches, not just 24 boxes.

I can't be sure, becouse did not test it, but I have not imagined it.

"According to Thunderheart it is necessary to obtain 24 FS skills in order to begin the path to Jedi. It is also believed that this is the point at which you will obtain an additional character slot. It would make sense that you could then surrender your FS skills if you want to, and keep your additional slot -- but that has not been confirmed. It also seems quite likely that you can continue to do quests and obtain other FS skills if you so desire."

Taken from the guide to the village.

Check Jedi forum. It has 1 topic with appropriate references.

Personally I am going to get only 6 just because I am able to get this exp. But if for some reason I would be able to unlock 7 branches I would test it.

Well, at least this question will now get some attention and hopefully some research and answers. Whether or not you have to keep the FS branch is very important in deciding newtemplates that include FS skills.

For example, Iam completing aTKM Ranger soon:

Master Scout (77) + Master Ranger (63) +TKM (63) +TKM's Brawler pre-reqs (29) = 232

I took the 3 melee FS branches(12) like a lot of ppl (speed, accuracy, defense) and Luck (4) for the heck of it.= 16

232+16= 248, leaving only 2 pts left.

I wanted to trade in Luck branch for FS Survival branch, to complete this Uber Ranger char, but from what I'm hearing here that's risky because I wouldn't have the 6 branches simultaneously. I'm holding off until I hear more info, thx to all who posted, this could become an important thread.

Keep it coming, ppl need to get this straight before they screw up stuff, losingliterally hundreds of buff sessions

GotEgg, I see your point. Here's the thing, ALL unlocks are free, all you do is talk to the guy and it unlocks the 16 box profession, no work involved. What we hologrinders got should prob be called Free Branches because that's what they really are, free branches complete w/ xp to fillemwith.
