Do you know the answer? If someone isa MBH and has melee mitigation 2 from TK would they get the melee mitigation effects when using a BH weapon?

No,

Everything I have read on the issue (which is alot) says that ranged Mit only works with Ranged weapons equipped, and Melee mit only works with melee weapons equipped. This is much in the same as dodge, counterattack and block, in that +110 to dodge does no good if you have a carbine or pike equipped.

It is quite possible that it will stack, and it is quite possible that it will not stack. I think it is kind of bugged, and I think it depends on which prof you mastered first. I tested out a bunch of things on my character so I will tell you how it worked for me.

Rifleman was the first profession I mastered, obviously I had Ranged Mitigation 3.

Fencer was the next profession I mastered, I mastered a melee because I thought it would be cool to have both mitigations. After I completed fencer a couple people from my guild helped me test it out. What I found was this:

If I had my rifle equipped I only had ranged mitigation. With my baton equipped I had both mitigations. So I suspect that the first profession you master gets shafted on the stacking of mitigation, but I can't prove it.

If you want to test it out, I suggest you and a couple of friends go to the TC servers right now. They have the blue frogs in and you can test any template you want.

Actually upon review of my own post, it may have been the one handed toughness, lol. Ah who cares

That doesn't sound likely to me because why would the smuggler tree (which uses pistols) include Melee Mitigation 1? Do you think it was an accident? There must be a reason..

Look at the prereqs for smuggler, Pistol and Unarmed. Smugglers are "supposed" to be able to use both. The 2 being in the smuggler profession represent that ability to use the pistol (ranged mit) and the fists (melee mit). Same with commando, the odd ball is BH, but they put it in the Investigaton line, and it seems so out of place. I think that was a mistake.
