Hi, I am considering grinding different careers and looking at what xp u get back after u surrender a skill, is there a calculation u can use to determine what u get back after u surrender that level & how does it work as u surrender multiple levels in the same tree...i.e. Pistol I - IV...
any help would be appreciated again please
Regards
John

Heya!
You get no xp back when you surrender a skill, only skill points. The xps must be earned anew, if you decide to take that skill back later.

You don't get xp back since it was spent "buying" the skills.

One thing you should know, if you have maxed out xp in a tree, you keep that xp until you do something that would grant you that xp. Say you had Master Pistols for a while and capped the XP at 900k. You no longer get a message saying You receive xxx xp. You surrender Master and Pistol 4. If you do not use a pistol you have that 900k for future use. If you kill something with a pistol after surrendering the boxes you loose XP.

u do get a portion of the xp when u surrender the skill......I.e. I had Pistols I -IV...I surrendered all of these skills and still had about 24k of xp left in that tree....so if I decided at a later date to go back and train in it again, I would already have some xp to get me started,,,,The question I have is how much do u keep of your total required for that level....i.e. if it cost 150k to get pistol IV, and I then surrendered it, how much xp would I have left of the 150k....You do have some left.

No, what you have is the xps you had left after buying, in your example, Pistol IV.
I don't remember the exact numbers, but let's say you need 250000 xps to buy Pistol IV, and you accumulate 300000 pistol experience, you will be left over with 50000 pistol experience points after buying Pistol IV. Thoses 50000 points + any pistol xp you earned after buying Pistol IV (up to the cap number) you still have after surrendering your skills, since you didn't spent them. (that is, until you use your pistol again, it seem. )

if you dropped your skills when you had 50k xp, but used a pistol in combat, you will lose 48k xp (xp caps on double the xp neccessary to learn the next skill box... so if you dropped pistols 1-4, but then used a pistol, you would all of a sudden have 2k xp, because you need 1k xp to learn pistols 1)

if you dropped it with 50k, and never used a pistol after you dropped the skills, then started to relearn skills, you would keep the 50k xp, so you could instantly go from novice marksman to pistols 3

Not quite.
If you drop all pistol skills with 50k xp left, and never use a pistol again until you wish to retrain, you can only go to pistols II.
The moment you train Pistols I, the game truncates the xp you have left from 49k (left after pistols I) to 10k (double what is required for pistols II)
At least, this is what happened to me, only I lost over 100k pistols xp
