Welcome back, first of all. Now for your question. Since the combat system was upgraded, the to-hit bonus seems to be non-existent. Although it increases your chances of missing, I suggest you move away from the mob when it starts near you. Better yet, get in a hunting group with some level 80 players and hunt with them, you'll level up in no time and be able to solo half of the mobs in the game.

Ok.... So my best bet is to kite them then... That having been said, it would seem wise for me to work on carbines since I can run and shoot well at the same time. I'm definitely planning on grouping up for real experience gain, however I wanted to try and re-learn the basics first.

Thanks for your response! Any additional advice welcome (almost all the newbie guides that are stickied seem to be Pre-CU and thus worthless at this point...)

Ok....Well, even while kiting (I'm at level 8) I'm getting owned outright by grey level 1 kreetles. I've got to be doing something wrong, this is pathetic. I'm using a carbine and running around in circles to avoid getting more aggro from other mobs. However, switch to brawling and I can kill them in 2 hits...

Frustrated,

Hello-

I'm a re-newb (I played in beta, and decided to give the game a couple of years to mature before returning). So....That having been said, most of what I learned in beta seems to be useless now.

I'm trying to work on my combat skills but seem to be having some trouble:

Is it necessary for low level characters to have both melee and marksman skills? Here's what I've noticed:

I attack prone from max distance with my rifle, the mob closes in on me, I switch to kneel and pistol. I get owned by mobs that con 6, I'm currently 8.

I attack prone from max distance with my rifle, the mob closes in on me, I switch to standing and unarmed, I beat the mob senseless and live.

Problem with this is that almost all of my experience is then in the melee skill, not marksman.

So....

1. Is it normal and necessary for anyone who plans to solo often to take melee and marksman?

2. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

3. Help!!!!

I'd love to focus on the marksman stuff, but outside of a team it just doesn't seem feasible.

Thank you!
