It think it's even possible to still master 3 elite combatproffesions: TKM - Master Swordman - Master Fencer.

Maccajnr - Elder Jedi, just a normal profession. Pilot Ace
Maccfly - Master Chef - Master Bio-Engineer. Master Bounty Hunter. Pilot Ace
Maccbeal - Spy

I just logged in today for the first time since the CU went live, and have little idea of what this "level" system is like since I've never played any other MMORPG. I started going through the respec process but noticed that it's hard if not impossible to select masteries of two elite professions. I also noticed that I was only a level 58 combatant and there are lots of level 80 players. I am a master rifleman and 0-0-1-0 smuggler (I canceled the respec process), and all my other skill points are in non-elite professions.

So I have two questions:

1) How is one's combat level determined, and

2) Is it truly impossible to master two elite professions now, or is it just impossible to do so through the respec? I would think the latter, but you guys would know better than I do.

Thanks for the help

In order to get combat level 80, you will need to master two elite combat professions. I am not sure of the exact breakdown on which boxes give you how many points, but mastering a single elite combat profession should give you CL 54.

Yeah, a friend who was MD and master swordsman pre-CU is level 80.

Has anyone else been unable to get two elite masteries from the respec? I can see why SOE would design it that way, but it's still annoying because it seems a respec should allow you to distribute the points however you want apart from pilot and Jedi.

I have a bad feeling about this nerf

The ReSpec just realigns your current skills.

And yes, you can master many professions. (depending on the profession). I'm currently at Master Rifleman/Master Pistoleer/Master Marksman and have enough skill points to take up some scouting or carbineer.

One of the problems with the respec is that pretty much all of the combat professions require two base branches now, where before you could sometimes just go up one branch of a base profession and then move up to an elite profession. This means it is quite possible to have a situation where you had a viable template before, but don't end up with enough points to get the same sort of template after the respec.

Something to keep in mind (whether ethical or not) is that you get several respecs. You could, in theory, grind up some easy XP and get some skill boxes and then respec those to (more difficult to earn) elite profession boxes. Just keep in mind that the lower level boxes do not give as many respec points as theelite boxes.
