Use two computers
Or add this to the USER.CFG in the main SWG directory (probably have to create the file with Notepad actually):
[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=TRUE
Simple as that

Sure. I've been running two instances of SWG on one computer for almost two months now. After some research here on the forums, this is what I have done. I am not sure if every step is necessary or not. The only thing I know is that I never crash by following these simple steps.
(1) Make or modify a file called:
..\..\StarWarsGalaxies\user.cfg
In this file you need to type in these two lines:
[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=true
(2) Start your Launchpad application as usual, and log on. Wait until you are fully logged on and in the game.
(3) Launch your task manager (usually by hitting the ctrl+alt+del keys). Look under the processes tab. Kill the process called SwgClientSetup_r.exe
(4) Start Launchpad again, and log in with your second account. When fully logged on and in game, do step 3 above again.
You will probably need a bit of tweaking as far as graphics are concerned. Window size is probably also something you want to fiddle with. I play with both characters running or travelling by vehicles, or one sitting silently while the other does stuff. Depending on your main activity, get whatever settings fits your bill.
Of course, as others have said already, you do need a copy of the game for each client you want to run on your computer. Eg. I have two physical boxes of SWG, and two boxes of JtL. And two Station account, and I pay two monthly fees (ouch
Good luck. It is very addictive. Beware.

You don't actually have to do step #3 anymore.
There was a bug that required it for a while a month or so ago but it's since been fixed.
Once you get in the game just start the game up again.

Brilliant! I actually had noticed this, semi-subconsciously, but didn't think of as an actual fix

- Go to the store and purchase another copy of SWG.
- Create a new station account (including billing information for another 15 per month) and register the key from that copy of SWG to your new account.
- In Windows XP click Start and then All Programs and then Accessories and click onNotepad.
- In notepad type in:
[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=TRUE -
Click File on the menu bar of Notepad and select Save As -
Navigate to the folder that you installed SWG in. (usually C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies) You may have to click My Computer then C: then Program Files then StarWarsGalaxies -
Click where it says SaveAs Type and select All Files (so that the file doesn't end up with a .txt suffix) -
Name the file USER.CFG -
Click Save. -
Run SWG as normal and log in with your regular account. -
When it's fully loaded, pressand hold the ALT key and press the TABkey to switch back to your desktop. -
Run SWG and log in as your second account. -
After it is fully loaded, you can use ALT-TAB to switch between them.
*Note: If you don't have a powerful computer, this will usually make the game run very poorly.

Just out of total curiousity, what do the devs think about that? There's language in the EULA prohibiting changes to the software. I presume they wouldn't object because it meansmore money spent on the software and another $15 permonth. Just curious, however, if they've ever spoken on thesubject.

The only thing I remember them saying is something along the lines of... This isn't a supported feature of SWG, so if you use it and run into problems, don't come crying to us. But they are aware of it and don't seem to have a problem with it. They've even fixed bugs that made it so we couldn't do that for a short while.

Thanks. Once you're up and running, it sounds a bit easier than simply having two user profiles in Windows and switching between them?

I don't think this would actually be considered a change to the software since it's really nothing more than a configuration option.
It's nothing more serious than changing the look of your UI in-game.
