SOE, save yourself the grief that is coming your way & give players the choice as to which slot should become FS. This is the easiest & most fair way to handle this situation brought about by your complete 180 degree turn in such an important aspect of the game. This is completely a problem caused by your ill-thoughtout plan to impliment Jedi in the first place...and changing it this drastically a full year into the game will cause just as much problems for you nowas it did when the whole holo-grind was created.
A simple pop-up box asking the player which slot should go on the Jedi path would be fine. I know there have been devs who liked this idea, so please listen to them & let them program it in. I don't think you fully realize the implications that not allowing this choice will cause. But once players find out what publish 10 has in store & how long it takes to reach Padawan, many players will be utterly frustrated at the thought of having to do it twice just to get the proper chars as Jedi. They will quit as a result as so many have done before them.
There is no valid reason to force mains to become FS other than corporate greed. This tactic of forcing the players to grind longer will backfire on you, just as it has in every single instance prior to this one. There has never been a time where introducing a time or money sink has ever benefitted you in any way whatsoever. You have consistantly failed to realize that with every extra dollar you made from those of us willing to stay, countless others have left never to return. And the money lost from those you forced to leave will never be made up from the dwindling few willing to stay.
For once you need to own up to your mistakes & not try to correct them by creating even bigger mistakes. Think of what would be the best solution for ALL players & act accordingly. Giving each player the choice is that solution...Do the right thing !!!

Forgive me my ignorance, but why would it matter? Hologrinder don't have a *real* profession now, so they would need to grind to a profession anyway, whether it be on their main slot or their 2nd slot.

The main reason is that long ago SOE told us our mains would never become FS & we would open up a second slot to create our characters with instead. Based on that rule, many players decided to create & role-play their mains as other StarWarsy charachters & save their ideas they had for their Jedi chars until they finally got the second slot.
Now that SOE has changed their minds after a whole year, these players that have been saving their ideas will not get to use them for their FS chars without doing twice the grind that players did before the change. This simply isn't fair to them at all. They deserve the right to be able to choose the correct name, sex, & species for their Jedi char, justas the players did before publish 9...& they shouldn't have to grind all the way to padawan twice just to do it.
So, any players who have created their chars pre-publish 10should be grandfathered in & be given the choice as to which one should become FS. This is the only group of players that would be affected since all those that already have a Jedi got to create it from scratch, & because anyone who creates a char after publish 10 will already know the new rules when making it & can make a main that they would like as a Jedi.

one problem with what your asking is that the new system has badges affecting you force sensitivity level. Since your FS level determines when and what you can do (supposedly you can't enter the village until your glowing), you have to acquire badges, master professions, do unspecified things to become FS. Since those that have unlocked between P9 and P10 and will get a second slot, it means that in order for you to become force sensitive with that second slotyou have to go and acquire all those badges and things that your main character did. The devs certainly aren't gonna give all the requirements to your newly created character just because you unlocked with the main one....matter of fact, when was the last time the devs gave us anything....why would you expect them to.They want to make money...to make money, you need a time sink that hopefully won't drive away your customers. If the old grinding system didn't drive away people, then I doubt that this one will.
Besides, 100 people from the board that threaten to leave (as if SOE is threatened by that anyway)....there are 1000 that don't leave and probably another 100 that join every week. If not, we would see a drastic decrease in first time noobs around.....don't know about you...but I see plenty of them everyday asking me all kinds of questions and I say "what a noob"...but then remember when I was wet behind the ears.
Last thing, the devs don't listen to post like these simply because it's not constructive and doesn't give any valid suggestion or well thought out ideas of how and why they should do something like this. So it falls on def ears. The "petition to do this" threads and the "I'll quite if you don't do this and take a bunch of my friends with me" threads is just a waste of time.....if the devs actually do something about an issue that anybody makes a petition or threat thread about, it's not because of your thread, but probably more because a correspondent or group of them got together or some person wrote out and discussed some issues which may or may not include what we rant about on these threads......basically a well thought out proposal....not a I want, give me this, the devs suck because, or why can't we have type of threads......
However, I think you'd have to have a pretty convincing argument of why they should do something like this. I'm against it myself simply because of potentially bad things that could happen from this.

You're right, this will probably accomplish nothing. It's just a last ditch effort before the hammer falls. I have been part of a more concerted effort to stop this from happening in the early stages...before the code was created. Yes, it's true that things your main will do will be linked to opening FS, but we warned them of that ahead of time, so hiding behind that excuse will not work for SOE. They had plenty of forewarning & could have adjusted their changes accordingly.
They want to extend the grind for the money...just like you said. The problem is the holo-grind DID make lots of players leave...& if they go ahead with their current plans & it actually ends up takingsix months to reach full Padawan, then that means it will take over a full year for role-players to do it twice to get the right char as their Jedi. How many players do you think will actually do that? Not as many as SOE is betting on.
It's just a sad state of affairs...& I doubt JTL will be enough to make things any better.
