I am considering getting a second account - however, is it possible to run 2 instances of the game from the same computer? I.e., can I start the game, log into my server with account and then alt-tab out, start the game again and login using account 2 - thus having 2 characters in the game at the same time?
I know this was possible in Anarchy Online but am wondering if it is also possible in this game. Thanks.

Ah good to know.. unfortuantely I can't find instructions how to make it so that I can start two instances of the games at once... can anyone explain how? I did a search but can't find an explanation anywhere.

Open Notepad
enter the following two lines:
[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=true
allowMultipleInstances=true
Save file as user.cfg in your Star Wars Galaxies directory (probably):
C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies

Heh, beat me to the punch eh... but this is the way to do it... take great caution though... having two SWG clients at once is going to really kill your pc... make sure that if your alt is a doc or musician/dancer, like a buffer, be sure to move your main to the spot where your alt logged last... moving around while two clients are open is too difficult, so it's best to do the moving first.

hmm, well it just crashes to dextop now after i made that change... it sits blank for 2 mins, then the first loadedinstance crashes while the new one loads.
I tried, using winxp, to log on under a new user - and that worked... like you said though, very slow (took 4-5 minutes to load the game.. once in, it wasnt too bad.. just bad frame rate)... fortunately I am just using it to make a dancer, so i dont need to move around.

i can run 2 without lag aslong as im outside a city or dont try to go into a building that needs to load, otherwise the one that tries to go in the building crashes
i run a athlon 2600+xp, 1 gig of pc3200 dual channel ddr, a radeon 8500le 128mb, 1.5mb adsl, a note though, whenever i crash, it says i need more virtual memory, i run with none, so im gonna try setting a page file for like 600mb and see if that allows me to enter buildings

Nope they work just fine. If you have 1Gb RAM you can play easy, sure you will have problems if you RAM lower that 1Gb, on 500Mb it slow, really slow in town. Well really to play ok on both it window you will need about 2Gb RAM, but 1Gb an big HDD space for virtual memory work fine.

I have 1 gig of ram and it kept crashing before I could load the second instance of the game... I then went to virtual mem settings and upped it from 1 gig to 3 gigs... and I can now seem to load 2 instances.

I was going to mention this - but the recommended rule of thumb is 3 times the amount of ram for a paging file.
I have recently got a jedi so now I want to use this - tried the notepad deal but when I loggin on one account while the other is running the other is kicked to the character login screen!
I will try without the text file.

The cfg file does work! When I removed it - I was told i couldnt play swg since I had another instance already loaded. As the poster said its in the main game directory (on whatever drive u installed the game, for me not the C: drive). Still get disconnected when I alt tab. Maybe I need to define a different port for each instance, maybe not; still I wouldnt know how.
