Is there any way to make your character do these? I've seen NPC's standing there talking to each other, using hand and arm movments like they are explaining something. I'm assuming that since I've never seen a player do this that it can't be done, but worth a shot. Maybe some hidden command or something.

Check out the emote commands in the commandsmenu. Most, if not all of the motions I have seen NPC's making can be duplicated using them. Also, certain words are keyed to character movement. I'e never seen a full list of these words, but say "cold" and you shiver, "no" and you shake your head,or "love" and you embrace yourself.

Ah. I know which movements you are talking about. NPCs standing around in starports do it a lot. Waving their hands around while talking. Like flipping their hands over and about. An aimless "whatever" type gesture. I've gone through every command in the list, every "undocumented" command I ever read about, tried typing in random maybe this will work type commands... and not a one of them would reproduce that gesture. It's frustrating.
But then again, I am getting used to NPCs having stuff we don't. Clothes, armor, furniture and plants and rugs and paintings... Heh.

Exclamation marks and question marks will also trigger some emotes such as "now!" and "I win!" Can't think of any with question marks but I know there's a few of those too...

Someone please even if you have to use a debugger / program reader find the carbineer knockdown animation and the /? command that calls it so we all can use it. Hands down that is the best animation I have ever seen.

I recently discovered that using '/sing' with something like: 'Me?' or 'now!' will do the animation, but doesnt show you saying it. (Note this does not work if you are an entertainer as the chat will show in a nice sing chat bubble) Or you can go afk, and turn the 'show chat from afk players' off in ctrl + o and you will do the animation but not show the chat.

yeah, that is what I'm talking about, if you watch them, they will have their hands out in front of them, waving them around as they shake their head around some, etc. I notice it a lot with Nightsisters but that is because that is where I spend my time. If you come up on a spawn you will see them all just standing around having a good ol' time carrying on a conversation and all
I just figured that since it was an animation that there might be somewhat to make your character do it

Some words will when said in spatial chat will cause your character to do certain gestures.
Such as:
me, hmmm, bored, and many more
