Thread: Looking for a Guide to Space Combat...

I remember when I used to PVP with X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. Does anyone have a link to that guide or a guide for JTL on how to fight in space?

I have noticed that you cannot dodge fire in this game and I would like to see if someone has a guide to help us pilots while in combat.

Well... I guess I would need a run down on what the best tactics to dogfighting would be.

I got few tips.

1. Find your engine's "Sweet Spot". Do this by adding you're ship's (not engine) yaw, pitch and roll rates together, and then dividing that number by three. Now, take that number and make a macro ingame that does /throttle (# here). When turning, smash that hotkey and you will turn faster.

2. If you are being tailed, switch your speed to the "Sweet Spot", press "R" and wip around to attack them. They will break off for you to trail.

3. Conserve capacitator energy: sometimes it is better to onyl fire once u have a clear easy shot.

Good luck!

Throttle 100% is 1.0, throttle 3.78 does not exist .

Right... I figured it out... do to 33% throttle, the command is /throttle 0.33. I now have my speed settings where I want them and I see a huge difference in my fighting, now that I have time to think about what I am doing instead of trying to get the right speed while taking evasive manuevers. Thanks...

Anyone else have any other tips?

There's some really good information you should find useful in this thread JTL helpful links

I don't think there is a guide stricktly for combat, but there are plenty of tips for fighting.....there are links from buying a ship to how and where to level.

Regarding that sweet spot thing... I'm trying to make the connection between the number I got from the calculation and how that translates into the number I use after the /throttle command. Is my calculated number a percentage? For example, on my Dunelizard, the number came out to 83. Does that mean 83% is my ideal turning speed and hence /throttle 0.83 ?

Oops, I made a small mistake with the Sweet Spot , sry guys. It is indeed the engine stats that count, not the ships ones (though ship will work, it's slightly less accurate).

The format is:

Roll speed + Pitch speed + Yaw Speed \ 3

The number you get then is your sweet speed. If the number, for example, is 83, then 83% is your ideal turning speed and the command is /throttle 0.83

Sorry for the messup.
