Thread: It's 6 months after you cancel: Official

My subscription runs out in a few days, and I'm considering letting it lapse because of how unplayable this game has become since theJtL patch.

My question is, how long can your account be unplayed but still keep the characters? Once you "unsubscribe", are your characters instantly wiped?

I hate to think all my hard work will be deleted whimsically because I had to make a tough decision to stop playing the game for a while as the bugs and glitches get ironed out...

Help!

Once they said they couldn't promise characters would be there after 5 days. But that was August of '03. I know it's at least a couple of months, I've done that on an account already. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

My brother quit EQ for a year and half, but when he reactivated his account, his characters were still there.

So, what I'm trying to say is: They won't promise you anything, but chances are your characters will be here when you want to come back. SoE recognizes the draw of your characters still being ready to play if you ever want to re-up your subscription...

Thanks for the response. It's kind of sad to think my character I've had since Beta will be purged within a week because SOE needs the server space due to their ineptitudeand their broken promises of well-constructed gaming.

I really hate to bail, I really do... but this lag is just plain intolerable (and my comp. can handle most of the lag, until this patch came thru anyway).

Honesty, I'm not going to pay $12+ monthly for something this glitchy. I endured all of the other patches and problems, but to dump JtL on us in the state it's inis completely unacceptable.

SOE, expect a lot more long-term players like myself to make the Jump to Unsubscribing.

The official is that they would wipe characters after 6 months after cancellation.

Then of course the alternate - save their butt response is also unless they need the server space.

Also, they have pushed back the activation of the 6 month purge system, so you probly got atlest an extra month.

They in all honesty have no reason to delete anything...ever. That's just an excuse.

no a lot of times having a bunch of dead players houses in your city/area etc that have 3-4 months of paid main on it is a pain (maybe it sjust me, but i have a couple houses like this in my city and i know i keep a couple months of maint on hosues/harvesters)

with the 6 month wipe itll clear up space for people to drop houses/harvesters/etc

I ran across this just now, and remebered my post from this morning... the 5 day thing was only threatened for a couple of weeks, just after launch, to keep people from cancelling.

But here's the official word.

Once your account has sat idle and unpaid for 6 months: BOOM, it's gone on the next scheduled purge. At least that's what they're doing for now.

And this is good to know, since I have a couple of friends I was going to try to convince to re-subscribe and come back to the game. But they quit back in January, so their characters are gone now. So I don't have to bother talking them out of WoW. No chance of that now.

Thanks Rodian-Bob. That's exactly what I was looking for. Much obliged!

Did you try reducing pixel shader to 1.4 instead of 2.0? Fixed my problem! Be sure to disable bloom.
