And why doesn't Mort speak to female toons? lolI sent a character out on my g/f's account, CL68 MBH/some Rifleman/some Pistoleer and neutral, to see Mort for the Katarn Armor Quest. He wouldn't talk to her, saying he was busy and the drink was the only friend he needed. So I got out one of my alts, a CL80 neutral warrior, Master Swords and Master Pistoleer, and did the quest for her, then traded the armor to her. She can't wear it, because it says she is not certified to wear it! Turns out she's only certified for Assault Armor (through MBH) and has low mitigation on Recon Armor through her dabbling in Rifleman and Pistoleer.[Edit: Forgot to mention that her CL level can't be the only reason that she couldn't talk to him, as I have a shiny set of the Katarn Clone Armor on another character of mine, who is only CL 56.]Which brings up a few questions:1) Why is the Katarn Clone Armor Battle Armor? The clones that I've seen in the movies were all Ranged soldiers using anything from Rifles to Pistols, which would "certify" them only for Recon Armor.2) Why does MBH certify you for Assault Armor, which is certifiable mostly by Melee types: Swordsman, Fencer, Pikeman (oh yeah, and Ranger) ? There are no Melee qualification requirements for MBH, only Scout and Marksman requirements.3) For that matter, why does Ranger certify you for Assault Armor, when it's mostly thought of as a Ranged (no pun intended) profession, with most character builds adding Rifles or Pistols and not a Melee profession as secondary.4) And finally, why can we not "refit" the Katarn Clone Armor to whatever type we are certified for, as we can with any other armor we've had? That would simplify the whole problem, but of course probably won't be done, being too simple a solution and all that.5) OH.... Why couldn't this character even find out she was not certified for the Katarn Clone Armor until AFTER she had bio-linked a part of it to herself, making it untradable and unsellable? It now stands in her living room as just another dust-collector, instead of being proudly worn around and USED as it should be.--- Just another one of those SWG things that make you want to go "Hmmmmmmm...."Message Edited by Skybo on 09-24-2005 10:49 AM
1) Who knows what the devs are thinking. As for the movies, don't draw parallels there since it holds little ground in this case. Recon, battle and assault armor are just names the devs made up.
2) Ehm.... no, all melee types get battle armor except TKM who get an inate armor. There are only 2 profs who get assault armor certs, BH and commando. My only guess here is that the devs see assault as a tanking armor, and there for BH and commando gets it.
3) Ranger gets battle armor.
4) The refit option only exist on pre-CU armor, and as some stated, it may be implemented for the katarn armor as well, some day in the future.
5) I am pretty sure it is stated what type of armor it is when it is examined. But, it would be much better if the cert check was before the bio-link procedure. Chalk it up to another "good idea, poor implementation" situation.
Just as a side note, where did you read about all these armor certs?

I've heard a rumor about the devs saying that they were gonna make it refittable, so your friend is out of luck. Besides, at high CLs, you should think to check for possible dev-esque things. Just saying.

That would put her back IN luck, if she can refit the armor; she's outta luck now.
What are "dev-esque" things?
Was I supposed to be reading the minds of the devs and somehow have known beforehand that the Katarn Clone Armor was Battle Armor?
Or should I be able to read their minds and figure out why they have MBH's only certified for Assault Armor?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Does she have ROTW activated? Cuz thats what my problem was.
D'OH!!! Yegads, I didn't think of that! LOL
No, she didn't have it activated. Sheesh. My bad. No, her bad. lol
Well, in order to use it she's gonna have to pick up one of those other profs I guess. Or just run around in her dancing togs.

Your question got me curious, so I went back ingame and doublechecked. I got the melee wrong, they all use Battle Armor, except of course the TK.Message Edited by Skybo on 09-24-2005 04:52 PM
That's what I thought
ummm assuming battle armour is the most common type of military armour. The average clone used battle armour and most of them use carbines....
There were a number of Clones in a type of scout trooper armour...One of the two that go to kill yoda on Kash was wearing a green scout armour which would correspond to SWG Recce armour...
I have done the quest as a TK/PIKEMAN (It's actually not that hard if you mid to upper 50's) and I have the armor and I tried it on and took a picture and put it in the bank.

What get's me is that items that aren't useable UNLESS YOU have done the quest are tradeable. I lost 2mil on a Jedi SF that I can't use because I didn't do the quest myself. THAT is the thing that really PISSES me off. I HATE the space part of the game but I bid on seveal Jedi SF's for me an some friends for a cool factor. Fortunately I only won one, one went for 8mil (poor **edit**), and got off easy (yeah...).
Why can I trade/seel things to people that they can't use? I heard that there was an old scam with the glasses, find a NOOB sell the specs and log. Next day you got your specs back and a nice pile of creds.
SONY SUX the DIRTY BASTICHES! Small steps in program logic are lost on these people.

Sorry about that.. 2 4pacs of Guinness will get your Irish up.
