Hi people!
I´m playing this game for some time now and was often thinking about what´s missing so that the people start complaining about
lack of content and the missing "Star Wars" feeling.
I tested out some other mmorpgs and found out that most of them have some kind of newspaper every second or third day which brings news out of the "game life"to the players.
Let´s think about it: SWG takes place in a huge galaxy full of life and events. So why don´t add some kind of news network, if i remember the books right there is some kind of Galactic Holonews. I think of some window that pops up when you log into SWG or some kind of terminals where you can access the news network while waitingfor the shuttle. It would be great to read some news about what happens at the GCW frontlines or some science, social and political news. (Of course they don´t happen "really" in the game)
This would give the whole game some kind of story wrap and the devs would have nothing else to do then think about some nice and interesting newspaper reports every few days...and even better that they could link events or other occasions to the news network and focus the people on them.
Also some kind of rebel and impnews network could add a lot of star wars feeling to the game!
This is a very theoretical idea but as i expirienced it these news feeds really boost the whole game atmosphere. So please don´t start flaming the hell out of me, just think about it and try to add constructiv ideas.
I think this would be a really nice addition to the game and would make a lot of people happy!
Add your thoughts plz and improve the idea! Maybe some dev likes the idea too!

Kinda goes back to 'player driven content', actually.
I agree, this would help things out, but I'm working on something similar, and don't want a watered-down version the devs come up with to userp me hehe.

The Matrix Online is going to have a generated newspaper covering the exploits of players. Say for example you happen to lucky across a VERY rare spawn (we are talking like 1 per month here, no chance to search for it) and you and your mates take down an Agent. Next month you are in the game newspaper, all your names there.
It's a nice thought but you need rare things like that to cover it...
I mean what oculd go into a game Newpaper atm? This months fastest swoop times?
There isn't enough unique content. Once the GCW gets underway reports on the outposts getting taken by each faction would be nice, but if things like that are game generated then they still wont feel as "natural". They need an employee at SOE to write them is a nice pseudo style. Covering people who have managed to make Mandlorian armor and the like, noting the Guild involved and team leader.
Such is my opinion anyway. And Holonews will be bought to you by NPCs which sell HoloNews cubes for 50 credits in the major cities. I can see people now with rows and rows in their houses having every issue since launch
Anyway yes.... the HoloNews idea needs "unique" interesting events to work. And at the moment there aren't enough unique events.

having less 'serious' stuff might be nice too. one or two 'interviews' with random players per issue or so, some ppl getting married get lucky and end up with photo in the paper etc. so it aint only the most 'über leet' ppl in it all the time a lá 'Player X once again owned 34 krayts in a row' all the time, but some randomness.

My idea for that "Star Wars" feeling?
Watching all the movies on tv.
Anyhow, really good ideas. Although it'll probably never get implemented. The devs probably never even thought of it, and if this does get implemented, they'll probably just take all the credit for it.

this is a really good idea, but the amount of work that would have to be put into it, would make it more like an expansion pack then an update
