Thread: Problem with Cities

Just an observation...it seems NPC cities are mostly vacant, except of course Bestine, Cnet, and the Mining outpost (for solo missions). I love player cities, but it seems that once they came into the game, there was no reason whatsoever to be in Kaadra, or any other city really. It's sad when you goto these cities for training or something and dont see another living person the whole time....i mean really, when was the last time you went to Rori.

What i propose: Giving players space in NPC cities...open apartments or something that will give players the abilitty to declare resitancy in Bestine or any other NPC city. then open a true bazzar where players can rent space (not just maint) in an open air bazzar to sell wares in city. this would solve a bunch of problems...

1. vacant cities

2. unguilded players could have a city to call home

3. more of a SW feel in cities when more players are there, or at least conducting business in the NPC city.

4. renting space in the baz could help promote more competition in goods

5. renting an apartment in a NPC city would be cool

I love this game still, but little things like this would help the community i think...any other ideas?

Most if not all of the non-major hub towns were barren even before player cities. All PC's did was give the large groupings of houses a shuttleport and a name on a map, the players decided to live there and conduct their business there long before last december. It's just simpler now and we don't have to have vendors circling Theed and Coronet thanks to this. Well not as many anyhow.

And honestly, when did you ever go to Rori before beyond trying to gain some experience? I'll grant you that bestine and anchorhead are a little dead now thanks to player cities, but in correlation PvP between PC's is fairly consistent and on a much larger and more interesting scale. Defend/attack a town's base and you might actually accomplish something; clone rush in AH and you just get to prove how much later you can stay up then the imps.

Im not talking about PvP...im thinking commerce...if there were more people in the NPC cities, it would promote more people getting to know each other and stuff. Commerce would flourish and really if we have these NPC cities...why not use em? If not, get rid of them and have player cities earn spaceports

Well one reason for having them is cannon. You can't have Corellia without Tyrena, Doaba Guerfel, Kor Vella etc. it's like having a game based in New York without being able to see the empire state building.

For two, yes commerce in NPC cities wouldn't be too bad but frankly how do you get to chose who goes where? There isn't enough space in coronet to store all the vendors encompassing it. I mean have you seen the walls to the south and the east of it? Turn on vendors on your overhead map and you can't even see coronet anymore just a sea of green. I wouldn't mind a few consistent events going on in the non-hub towns to promote interest but dropping a mall in the middle of Theed isn't going to be a good idea and will just cause a bunch of complaints by those who miss out on a spot.

All people need to do in order to make the "lesser"NPC's more popular is go there more often. Coronet is laggy as hell so I always use tyrena. The starport used to be barren but now there's almost always a dozen or so guys. On peak hours there's even a buff bot there normally. I'm sure th same could happen to other cities if people would actually use them as alternatives.
