Hey folks, I just reactivated my account because of the great marketing tool SOE is using for the two expansion download for the price of one coming up in May.
Seeing that the game has been out this long, are there any plans for opening up new servers when the new expansion goes live? It seems like SOE is trying to attract new customers and get the people who left back, so will there be any new servers?

Welcome back to SWG!
Actually SOE is planning on streamlining the servers! They are not going to be creating any new galaxies, rather they will be closing the existing galaxies to about half. The server migration will be taking place prior to the release of episode III to create what is commonly referred to as "Massively Multiplayer". This is where multiple people from around the world can actually interact with one another.
As it stands now you can go to just about any city on any planet and find 5, maybe 10, people. After the merge of galaxies, that number should almost double! So you could go to, say, Anchorhead, and find well over 5 people there! As it is now, the only locations with a "massive" population are the core worlds and cities, with the average time spent there being exactly equal to the amount of time it takes to get buffed, or do a bank run.

Server merge would be neat. But in lieu of the upcoming movie would probably be foolish, there will no doubt be an influx of new players this summer. I mean, have you heard of the WOW difficulties? Waiting in line to play an online game, forget that.

Opening a "brand" new server would be neat though, all new characters, back to the days of cdefs and bone armor hehe.

I can't see a merger happening, What about players with same names. Player cities in the same places, etc etc.
Way to many things to go wrong and SOE wouldn't risk doing something this major as well as the CU and Ep 3 beta. All in the space of a month.

I wouldnt mind redeeding my house and tweaking me name if needed, imagine all the new people/guilds it would be interesting to see. But then again cant see it happening
