Thread: Would this violate the EULA? (I'll prolly be called insane for wanting to attempt this...)

It's like this: I'm very against the use of macros by AFK players to camp on and loot MOBs, keeping honest players from getting anything good. And it's really ridiculous that things like adhesives have jacked-up prices because of such practices, keeping them out of the hands of most people.

I don't play this to be the biggest, baddest character on the block. No, I'm here because I'm a SW fan and I enjoy having my own small partin the saga (which is why I'm most looking forward to what the new staff can bring to this, 'cuz SWG hasplenty of unexplored potential). No one has to pack the biggest guns or boast the largest bank account to enjoy life, right? That's the way I see things in-game too. 'Sides, I'm having way too much fun playing the role of the wise-cracking cash-strapped struggling smuggler

I didn't start going for serious loot until a few nights ago, when I decided that getting Blue Rug Adhesive (the final piece I need) wasn't going to happen unless I went into the field and actively killed spawned enemies. My wife thought I was crazy but over the past few nights I've spent six hours trying to get the elusive adhesive. So far, no such luck... but I have wound up getting practically everything else, and more than just one in some instances.

These could be put on the market in-game, where I'd stand to makeseveral millions of credits and never have to worry about much of anything unless Isprang for a Firespray. But in my book that's against the spirit of SW and good sportsmanship. It's not what I wanted my character to be, and more importantly it's not what I'm like in real life either. I'd rather help people instead of exploit them.

So here's the thing: I've got tons of very highly sought-after loot (everything but that darned blue adhesive!)... so much of it in fact that my house, yacht and bank box are threatening to bust at the seams. I need to get rid of it all, but I don't have the heart to destroythis stuffwhen others could use it. But I don't want to sell anything at outrageous prices either.

So, I want to give it all away. Not because I'm leaving the game (which I'm not) but because I don't need this extra stuff and I really enjoy helping other people enjoy themselves. If I can't use something, I'd rather it go freely to someone who has a real need for it. A few nights ago I gave Blue Dye and Gong Adhesive to another player: she got it completely free, didn't pay a single credit for it, and it was a great feeling knowing that I got to help another person along their path. Now I want to try to do that for a lot of other people. But I need to distribute it in a way that gives everyone a chance at it.

Here's the idea that hit me this evening: I play on the Bria server. I'd love to announce to everyone on Bria's forum that I've got all this stuff and it needs to go, but I don't want to get credits for them: I'd much rather simply appreciate knowing that I did something that let others have a bit more fun in this game, without getting compensated in return. It'd be great if I could list ALL the loot that's sitting in my possession that needs to go.

And now the part that made me wonder if this would violate the EULA in some way...

Players couldn't just ask for whatever parts I have: that'd create way too much chaos andI wanteverybody to have a crack at these items. So I want to post the list of what's available, and then tell everyone that if they want this stuff, they're going to have to work a bit and earn it. And since it's the holidays, this seemed the appropos thing to do: if anyone wants stuff in my collection, they have to write - in 200 words or less - about the funniest thing that happened to them or that they saw relating to Christmas or Hannukah or Kwanzaa or anything else about this time of year. Or if no funny experience, then something creative and funny about the holidays. Anything at all, so long as their contribution was family-friendly and within the word limit. I want to tell people to do that, and send it to me via private forum mail (so that it'll be one entry per account) along with their character's name and the topfive items - starting with their most-desired - that they need most. After a reasonable deadline I want to print out all the entries and let my wife read them over and help me judge which ones are the funniest. Best ones will get the loot they wanted most, with the hope that everyone who enters will get at least one item. I don't want a single bit of surplus loot sitting in my inventory when it should be out and played with by someone. After that, the items will be the other players' to do with as they wish. And I get the satisfaction of knowing that in some small way, I took a stand against the loot-hog mentality that's wrecking havoc with player enjoyment. I wouldn't be gaining anything material at all by doing this, and I don't want anything in return for it by any means.

So, would it be okay to do this? I also thought about, since I have a blog site, about posting the funniest contributions on it under the players' account names. This would be a really neat experiment for me to do and I'd love to chronicle its beginning and what came of it

Hope that this would be permissible under SOE's policy. I really am looking forward to putting stuff in a lot of people's stockings over the next several days

Think of it this way also: I play a smuggler. This is my big chance to actually smuggle some goodsunder the table!!

I have no idea if it's a violation but I dig your spirit of giving.

The other day on TC some guy was begging for creds. I told him I didn't like just giving creds out so I asked him what he wanted to buy most of all. He said he really wanted a speeder.
It just so happened that I had my old X-34 in addition to my flash speeder, so I gave it to him. It took him a minute to figure out how to call the speeder and drive it and then off he went. He seemed really happy and I felt good to give an unused piece of equipment to someone who really wanted it.

There was a newbie (apparently, 'cuz he was wearing newbie threads ) in Theed a few days ago, hanging around a bazaar terminal and begging for 1000 credits to buy somethingornother. He was running to everyone around, asking them for money. When he came to me I suggested that he go to a mission terminal: that most missions would give him how much he needed plus a little extra. He went looking for one immediately. Hope that he's doing better financially now

No clue about the EUAL, but it would be cool, hopefully a DEV or MOD will pop in an answer this one. Good luck.

I fail to see how either giving away items or asking people to communicate with you can in anyway be against the EULA, as such these are activities that are actively encouraged by the whole MMORPG genre of game. If anything, I'd imagine, SOE would be glad to see you organising such a player event.

However, without wanting to burst your bubble I think you will find that a huge stack of random junk loot kit parts is not worth millions of credits. Go check the bazaar and you will most likely find these parts being sold for 1-3k each. OK you will pay more for table tops, rug dyes etc but even then I'd expect with a bit of shopping around you could get them for under 20k with the only 'valuable' bits being the adhesives which I have now seen for 100k each.

You see on the one hand you are saying this is highly sought after loot but on the other you have proved just how easy it is for anyone (a novice brawler can take meatlumps) to aquire huge stacks of this loot. You see there are now hundreds of people who have stacks upon stacks of these loot parts, the servers are awash with them, therefore the prices are dropping daily.

I'd actually say that giving away anything other than completed loot kits is about the market value for them these days.

Sorry! But I applaud your generocity and hope you have fun with the event.

oops to late to edit this in...

The only thing I'd say you need to be concerned about is that if you intend to publish winning stories on your blog site you should inform entrants that by submittiing an article they agree that you have the rights to publish it on your blog site.

Your own ULA if you will

Adhesives was one thing I wound up with several of, and have no real use for it myself. Knowing that's still big in demand was one of the reasons I thought about a mass giveaway and to make it both fair and fun like this :-)

If I were you I'd try to trade one of your extra adhesives for a blue rug adhesive. Then give all the other stuff away.

My lovely "spousal overunit" saw what the finished blue rug looks like and thinks it looks pretty snazzy, so she's hoping I can get one. I'd love to have it on the floor of the dining room on my yacht (which is fast becoming a VERY neat combo pleasure craft on-the-outside/smuggler and bounty hunter vessel beneath-the-surface... complete with holding cell for captured marks!) A blue rug in the middle of the room would add to the aura of this being a completely "reputable" ship

Yeah, I could see if anyone had a blue rug adhesive to trade, but at this point, after committing so many hours to trying to loot it on my own, this has become a personal vendetta against the SWG loot-drop stats! I cannot, will not, take the quick and easy path to victory and give SOE's devs - a pox upon their householdsand may their telephone numbers always be one digit away from that of an all-night pizza delivery stand - the satisfaction of knowing that I yielded to the temptation. Because I could not say "yes I will" just one more time than their servers said "no you won't".

With the Force as my witness, I swear on the Altar of Exar Kun that someday, of my own temerity and determination, I shall kill an obscure Meatlump or Mugger and take from his steaming, stinking carcass the fabled Blue Rug Adhesive. Be it on the grassy plains of Corellia or the misty streets of Naboo, I shall hold aloft my prizejust as noble Perseus raised Medusa's head to the heavens in defiance ofmen and gods and fate. Lo, NPC and PC alike shall stare in wonder and awe at the sight of the lone smuggler who challenged the system, who showed that it was not unbeatable, that the impossible was possible... before it's destroyed forever when its tossed into the Blue Rug Loom and churns out a piece of furniture that will be such a conversation piece untilKreimheld, my petdewback, soils it duringpaper training

'Sides, I really am the kind of guy who loves to help people out whenever I can. This'll be good for them, and it'll be good for me 'cuz it'll give me room for more stuff (the looted JTL ship components alone take up an entire room of my house on Tatooine!) And after consulting with a fellow player this morning, it turns out that I've actually had a lot more valuable loot all this time than I realized, way before starting to go for the Blue Rug Adhesive. I've no need for an Exquisite Dancer's Leotard Schematic, so that'll go on the list of goods that'll be given away, along with Gong Adhesive, Naboo Sculpture Adhesive, all the threads for the Blue and Orange Rugs (Orange Rug Adhesive is the only other thing that I can't seem to get, even though I've concentrated on finding Blue). JTL ship parts will probably also be considered for this giveaway/contest/thingy. The only thing I'm going to hold back is a schematic for a Craftsman's Apron (I think that's what it is) because that's already been promised to another player - in addition to paying him a reduced rate - that will be exchanged for an expensive item he expects to have back in stock soon.

I've no doubt that someday and sooner rather than later, I'll get the Blue Rug Adhesive on my own. But in the meantime, I really am looking forward to doing this for other people, though they may be complete strangers to me even apart from their on-screen avatars. And the pleasure I'm taking from even planning this already has been far, far more rewarding than it would have been to loot the adhesive and sell it for millions of credits If I did that, how much meaning would that really have apart from myself and whoever it was that bought it? Now, how much more memorable and special would it to be a LOT more people to have a giveaway like this... and to make it all the more fun by staging it as an essay contest (that anyone can enter) with a holiday theme?

I'm seriously looking forward to doing this, if I can be assured that this would be okay per SOE's policy.
