If i remember correctly they have said that you will be able to re-distribute your skillpoints in some manner, but it wasquite awhile ago they posted about that so it may no longer be true.

It has been mentioned that a reallocation of Combat skill points will be possible (not non-combat skills, like musician, but your BH/Fencer/Pistoleer should theoretically be able to reallocate all his SP's).
Whether or not that comes to fruition remains to be seen.

I remember mentions of this as well. It wil probably be the same as the jedi upgrade when we used /startconversion to reroll

They said about BH and smuggler also, that they will have possibility to relocate combat lines but not "connected with them" like investigation in BH or slicing in smuggler.

Why would you give up a profession you enjoyed? You only choose the most powerful professions?

I was alsowondering about this...
I have a master pistoleer + desperado + dirty fighting. As far as I understand, they will make the Bounty Hunter professions requirements in terms of skill boxes more costly, about like what it was when you needed master scout. That means I cannot be desperado and master pistoleer anymore... so the first time I log in will I need to "rewamp" my charachter ? will I need to make a decision immediatly? wihtout having had a chance to try out the post CU professions? not knowing what is fun, nerfed, sacrificed, improved, fixed? It really scares me actually

Don't worry, you can always go onto the test servers when they put the CU on there and experiment with what you might like for a template, or you might want to test your existing one and see how it works and just keep it.
Dont listen too much to rumours of what may or may not be happening as no information has been released as yet as to any changes to professions, so anything you hear is just hearsay and rumour.
And as for "Why would you want to change your profession", I'm sure a lot of people would like to at least modify what they have to fit the new system, you dont have to completely change your entire template.
This isn't supopsed to be so that everyone can instantly have whatever FOTM template rears its ugly head on the test server, this is so that you can change your template without having to grind xp, which may well be a lot harder to do after the CU, after all, wae are getting a new HAM system, new guns and armour and a new AP system.
A lot is going to change and they are giving us the same options they gave to jedi when they revamped their skillsets.

Badger,
I was not playing at the time of the Jedi revamp so I am not familiar with it. Was it basically an option to move which boxes you have trained?

Ok,
Let me start of by saying I have two accounts and two characters now: A master rifleman/master musican and a stacked fencer/BH/pistoller. Between the two I think I have 2 skill points left over.
I have put a lot of work into these characters, but I understand things will change after the combat upgrade. Some professions may get "worse" while others get "better."
So, will I simply have to re-grind the new flavor of the month after the upgrade, or will Sony let us re-roll our characters instantly? If yes to re-roll, how do you think it should work or will work?

Erm, isn't the whole point that there is no FOTM? Or am I missing the point?

I didn't mean flavor of the month. However, clearly some professions and templates will still have various PVP and PVE advantages over others. Also play styles will change somewhat.. for example, I assume it will not be possible to speed cap a rifleman in the same way you can today.

Yup, thats what they let them do, you had a command you could use that would start the process and you just reallocated all your skillpoints to boxes as you liked.
