Hello all,
I initially posted this message on my server message board, but thought that the game guide forum would be a good place to post as well. Anyway, I'm just looking for some feedback on what I guess is kind of an overarchingSWG question. See, I bought the game a few months after it came out and immediately tried to get into it.I created a cool character, plopped myself down on Tatooine and began the journey towards becoming a marksman. But then...well...I just found myself running around the desert for hours killing little creatures for a small amount of cash and even less experience points. I made itto thefirst pistol skill, but whenI looked at the requirementsfor the next level up, I saw that I wasWAY off. Was I doing something wrong? The wrong missions, perhaps? I tried to make contact with some players but never really found much of a welcoming community or desire to group up. Further, everyone seemed like they knew what was going on--player buildings, player cities, etc. I was a stranger in a strange, er, galaxy. Ultimately, I just got fed up withwandering around by myself, stopped playing, and moved on to other games.
Like many others, I became interested when I heard about Jump To Lightspeed. Ah-ha! Here's something cool--real time starship combat (shades of my beloved X-Wing series?). I found out that you could start accruing Rebel faction points to put towards a possible career as a rebel pilot, so I intrepidlystarted the game up again for the first time in months. I bought a ticket from Tatooine to Corellia in the hopes of starting over (this is beginning to sound like a soap opera), but basically ran into the same issues. Running around the world, killing little things (that somehow got a lot nastier and more dangerous in the intervening months).
Anyway, the upshot is that I'm hoping that some of you out there may have suggestions as to ways I can improve my experience of the game and become a more productivemember of the SWG community!
Gotta get ready for thex-wing...
Thankyou very much in advance,
Steve

friends. get them. nothing is worse than playing an MMORPG alone. try to get involved with something, join a faction, find out where people hang out. doing anything in this game is 100x better when you do it with a group of people you know.
besides, space will be pretty boring by yourself, i mean, there's no point of a multiplayer ship if you can't play with someone else on it.
so get friends, find a guild, if you can't do it on the server you tried, change servers, try one of the larger populated ones, bria, ahazi, even carebantis.

For the most part, you are better off finding a good guild or big group of friends to do stuff with. You will gain more XP quickly by grouping up and taking on bigger and badder creatures. Another alternative is to find/form a "solo" group, you can group with a ton of people which will allow you to select more difficult missions from a terminal, then you all split and go your separate ways to kill your mobs. Solo groups are probably the most popular because you dont have to share the credits with the others if they are far enough away, and you get all the XP if you survive your missions (with food and buffs you more than likely will).
My personal suggestion for you? Find a guild to join that has friendly people who dont mind asking/answering questions, and who like to do things TOGETHER and help people out. Solo groups are NOT the answer for people who don't like running around alone.
If you are on the Lowca server, look me up I'd be more than happy to help you out with what I can

forget all the friends talk. first level medic. most people are so grateful that you will heal them that you will gain money. with that money buy yourself good equipment. then you will be able to do worthwhile missions which in turn will increase your battle skills. after you master a combat skill the rest will fall into place.

Number one, you have come to an excellent community, you will get awesome help from people here. More relevent to your current question, I started in a similar situation, so hopefully my advice will help.
1. Stay on Tat. There are two main enemy spawn spots, at the desert entrance where the Bazarr terminals are, and up near the cantina, camp there and invited or be invited into a group (you share the XP and Credits)also there will be healer or two camping the wounded, to get XP for their Medic status, so you wont ket killed too quickly
. You will make contacts there and maybe go on a few missions.
2. There is a a chat entry you can make / LG (I think it is) it means looking to Group (check the manual), but also you can click in somebody during a fight and invite them to group.
3. I dont know too much about pistols, I went the Carbine route, I've since been advised that Rifleman is better, more powerful...you live and learn I guess, but if you start a new profession, it will only take a couple of days to become proficiant. I found scout ro be a waste of time for a fighter, but that is only my opinion, I dumped scout and got Medic instead.
4. Get some armour (dont forget helmet as well) and a power up for your weapon at the bazarr, I find hot wired couplers to be the best for me, but right click on the item to check it's stats.
5. Get Medic as a second skill, especially if you are going to be fighting alot, then get stimpaks to heal yourself with, and Blue Milk or Brandy, to help recover mind points.
If you post your server and char name, I'm sure somebody on the same server will keep an eye out for you and offer you some help, like a better weapon etc. For example mine is Europe-Chimaera and I use the name Valda Katana, if you see me, usually in either of the places mentioned earlier, say hi, I'll get you a decent weapon and take you on a hunt.
The community here as I said earlier is fantastic, and will always give helpful and encouraging advice, so keep posting....even if you aren't having problems

BTW, just as it occurs to me, seeing as you haven't played in awhile,
1. Dont forget to assign your attacks to the F Keys, When in a respawn area, as you see a creature respawning, hit the TAB key to lock on, then quickly press one of the F attack keys to attack quickly, you will probably have a fair bit of damage done to them, by the time they realise who is shooting at them.
2. There are coloured * beside the enemy HAM bar, Blue and White should be OK, but be careful with Yellow, and Red should only be considered if your're in a group.....a good one at that
3. Dont forget, you will be Incapacitated if any of your bars deplete to zero, so for example, if you are in need of a health hit to boost your HP, make sure your blue bar isn't so low, that taking the stimpak will be the thing that winds up incapacitating you instead.
4. Look at your stats (CTRL+C) and see if you are happy with them, ie. do you probably need more HP at the expense of Mind? If you do need to change them, you need a Stat Migrator, The nearest to you would be Nienor, he's in Bestine, NW corner in the Salon, tell him Valda sent you for absolutely no discount

If you ever deide to live on Intrepid, Look me up. Our guild could always use a fresh face, and alot of the members have gone away till JTL comes out. So I'm getting rather lonely out there..LOL.

my advice to a new player would be get novice marksman, medic, and scout. then do the droid missions for each, you will have, be very near the first box in each and have a few extra creds, free roundtrip ticket, and/or speeder rental, makes life much easier.
this was one of the best additions to the game in the last few months in my opinion.
also, find some of the other new players, they are likely in your boat and would be glad to have a little company while they also level. people think they will lose xp if they hunt with others, but you have an xp bonus if grouped, and can do more missions. besides the grind is faster with someone to chat with. scout is a great class for a truely new player for one reason, you can level to 4040 relatively fast and hides always seem to sell.
dont do all marksman, at least at the start. pick one weapon, since you picked pistol stay with it. (i probably would go to rifles, just because it is so much easier to level and get to where you can make cash imo) if you get novice of any combat class you will be able to make more money to buy better stuff. if you want to be BH or commando and so would need master marksman still get one line first, then you can make some money to make it much easier to get the others.
the economy is messed up, so for that all i can say is dont worry about buying stuff too much at the start, first purchase should be a better weapon, thestarter stuff is truely aweful. also,a buff is MUCH cheaper than armor and lets you handle up to 5k missions easily, so after a couple boxes it would pay to get a buff. you can make more then the 10-15k back in 3 hours of grinding 5k missions instead of 3k missions.
also, at this time, if you can kill NPCs like the meatlumps outside of coronet, you can loot locked containers and loot kit stuff, stick them on the bazaar for 3k (very cheap) and you will sell them quite quickly. (put them on the coronet bazaar though, more looks there)
also you can look for helpers, some will give you free stuff, (please wait until he offers though) almost all will give advice. i try to help whenever i can, taking guys on hunts where i can tank while they get ranged xp, or heal, etc. giving what wisdom i may have. if one helper is unable/unwilling to help ask another. you can search for us i believe (the tab that looks like a sillouette if 3 people then the search tab i believe)
last advise: have fun
