Thread: Resources and items--quality vs. prizing

Any character in game wants to make credits, naturally. And any character also needs to buy resources/items from time to time. So, we all depend on each other in different ways.

But, there is a big "but" here, the prizing seems to follow no real standard. Sometimes a quality resource are sold out cheap, but most often lousy resources or items are sold out at high prices.

Some thoughts, for what it's worth:

NEWBIES: Quickly learn what resources/items you need. There is a lot to read and learn in SWG, that is why I love playing. Your so-much-wanted item, what accuracy or whatever does it have? What is best possible? Is it worth that price? Compare. Sometimes that extra trip to another planet is worth its ticket price.

Gonna crafting? You can never craft something better than the limits set by your resources. Now you really need to know your schematics, if they tell you that e.g. Conductivity and Overall Quality counts, then UT 999 is of no use. Buying resources with the correct property(ies) is essential (there are some nicely written crafting guides, on how to compute the numbers, available online).

In summary:

Never buy lousy items or resources at too high prices.

Look at the correct properties.

ALL OF US: Personally I think we need to prize our resources/items according to their quality. That is, I naturally pay more for OQ 950+ Water than poorer qualities. And maybe OQ is not the only valuable property needed (sometimes even an omitted property counts better than a rather good number, which depends on the particular schematic with that particular resource).

Some resources/items are really not worth harvesting at all. Most often OQ is asked for--not always but most often--and then PE 500 is worthless if OQ 10, right? Maybe not for a beginner grinding some crafting XP, but it certainly isn't worth 3 cpu or more. For anyone.

I don't ask for a price table, it's a free market! But fellows, be somewhat price-quality-aware.

And I don't ask for quality-only, all of us cannot afford that, or are not interested in that best-of-the-market-whiz you can make.

E.g. a newbie may be satisfied with a simple crafting tool and may not even be aware of things as result-depends-on-quality-of-tool. Hence that newbie should not have to pay 5k for an 8 (of 15) assembly quality tool. But the closer to Master one comes, the more willing to pay for quality that character is.

Don't try to fool newbies to buy lousy stuff due to their ignorance. And at the same time, don't bug the rest of us that we need to plow our way through all that crap at the bazaar.

As always:

Quality pays.

You may fool one once, but never twice.

A happy customer comes back.

Think "win-win", if I'm happy and you're happy, then we all are happy.

VENDORS: I am sorry to have to say that so far in SWG I have never ever made a waypoint to a resource vendor. Sad, isn't it? In spite of your advertising promising the moon and the stars, I have never really found anything close to the promises. Not yet, anyway. Send me a mail if I'm wrong (Zimoon @ Gorath).

At least one or two vendors each planet should take a pride in offering the best possible resources/items in a particular market niche. Hence ever never sell anything unusable to those of a certain profession. Yes, you need to learn their schematics!

"But some resources are that rare, and then affording quality only, that's impossible!", you might cry. Sure, and then the prices surely will raise. If e.g. quality Tatooian Fiber Plastic spawn only once a month, such is life. And the prices reflect that. If anyone will suffice with poorer quality meanwhile, that's their business, isn't it? And they will surely find their stuff at that vendor-around-the-corner. But who will gain a waypoint in the datapads of the ever-so-wanted-buyers? I promise you, I will go over and over again if I'm convinced that when there are resources available they will be of highest possible standard. And I will not grumble when there is nothing.

This sounds like a huge rant in my own ears. IT IS NOT, though. Between the lines are some advices, given with affection to the game. You don't need to like them, not even to care. But I still hope you do.

A small suggestion would be to add a skill in the Artisan tree, somewhere upwards:

Make it possible to refine/extract resources to make them better. Maybe like experimenting while crafting, pick one, two or three qualities you would like to improve on. Any kind of power needa be used and its OQ/PE influence on the result. Maybe other basic resources too, as IRL. Successful experimenting might be saved as "formula" or something, and may be repeatedly used as schematics are used today, in tools or factory.

This is only mimicking real life and how resources are used at Earth, Milky Way.

Ideas, responses ???
