hello,
im looking to buy a new gfx card..
My comp is P4, 3.06ghz has1gig of ram, and my current gfx card is a GeForce FX 5200. Thing is,I have to disable the vertex/pixel shader, since the frame rate is so bad when its on, and also the graphics start to get a little 'glitchy'.
So, im just wondering what graphics card would improve the the graphics a lot and allow me to have the vertex/pixel shader on?
I searched the forums, but most of what i found was pretty old, and people were advising to wait a month orso till the new cards came out.
thanks

Can't speak for anyone else, but I have a bit of money coming to me shortly and plan on picking up a Geforce 6600GT (AGP version). Right now there are only two manufacturers doing AGP cards at the momentI believe, and the only one I've seen is around $240, but some friends have passed along some info that a lot more AGP cards will hit the market before christmas, and the price will likely drop some.
The FX line was definitely overpriced crap, but after doing some research I think the 6600 GT will be a good investment. I know how you feel about crumby performance, I'm upgrading from a Ti4200 myself

I'm more of an ATI wh0re myself so my recommendations would definitly be from the ATI product catalog. The new trend of video cards is moving from AGP to the faster PCIe slots. I'm going to assume you dont want to splurge extra for a new mobo so as far as AGP cards go I would definitly say go for the ATI Radeon X800 if you have the cash to burn. If you are looking for a more economical card the prices an the Radeon 9800 series have dropped since the release of X800s. Supposedly early next year ATI is going to release an APG version of the Radeon X700 so if you can wait a little bit you can a very nice card for around $200.

I have an X800pro and must say the game looks great. it may be a little pricey and if price is a concern try looking at the Radeon 9800pro oir the 9800XT

I'd highly recommend the Geforce 6800 Ultra, not in the least bit cheap. But you can run any current game in a stupidly high res with all the bells and whistles on

cheers
also, the only resolutions i canselect are:
1024x768 @ 60hz
1024x768 @ 70hz
1024x768 @ 72hz
I see people saying how the graphics look much nicer with the higher resolution settings.. Is it my gfx card that's stopping me getting them, or is it something else?
sorry, im a PC nub atm

How much memory have you got on your card? And what monitor do you have?

I recently built a new system and I put an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb. I have every graphic option turned on, and the game runs great. Steady 30fps, sometimes drops to 20-22fps in Coronet. Everything looks stunning. When I walk into the cantina on Coronet during prime time it still doesn't lag up. The rest of the system is a 3.0 P4, 1gig PC3700 ram, Abit AS8 mobo. Anyway, I highly recommend the 9800Pro 256. It was a little pricey ($288) but well worth it.

Radeon X800 Pro. You can't go wrong. I have been in many super crazy, usually lagged out battles in Theed, Coronet, Live events, etc. and I have not had 1 second of lag. All the graphics options turned on and turned up also. Game looks great and plays great.

ATI Radeon X800 Pro is great, X800 XT is even better, but if you want good performance for less than $400, try an ATI Radeon 9800Pro. The prices are pretty low and if youshop around you can get one for $180 or maybe a bit less.
The nVidia GeForce cards are pretty good too, but often require two Molex power connectors, 2 slots of space in your case, and sometimes require that you upgrade your power supply.
If you go for a 9800 make sure and get a Pro, and not a regular 9800.
