I am writing this to you not only as a customer of this game with great potential, but also as a voice of reasoning (hopefully) to hear out my thoughts regarding the upcoming Publish 10 due to be released in a few hours.
This morning, I finished grinding out my 31st profession, Weaponsmith. My 32nd, and last profession would have been Image Designer. Knowing that I did not have the time to finish ID before Publish 10 was to be released, I really hoped that WS would unlock for me. Unfortunately it didn't and no message to the like of "You feel the Force. You will be able to start on your path after Publish 10." was flashed across the screen. You can imagine at this point my heart just sank thinking that I had just grinded all these professions for nothing. I know that we will supposedly get holo-grind credits upon the release of Publish 10, but what exactly does that mean? Does it mean I still have to go out and do missions or quests that would take approximately the same time it would take me to finish one more profession? Or does this mean that I'm basically starting from square one with only a few advantages over others who didn't grind out professions?
I am a huge Star Wars fanatic like most others playing this game (otherwise why are we playing this game?) Ever since launch last year, I have aspired to become a Jedi. I remember my first trip out to Dantooine and following someone to the Jedi caves while avoiding all these red dots on my screen. Once there, I actually got stuck on top of the waterfall because of a bug. I had to contact a CSR to help me out then and also found out about the /unstick command. Unfortunately, this waterfall bug was immune to /unstick and a friendly CSR helped me get out of that unfortunate situation. I did the Jedi missions from the female Jedi in the caves and hoped that would unlock which it didn't. So I finally decided to just play the game and be a Creature Handler for the time being. I made some cool in-game friends and formed a great PA and went on some ganking missions along with forming our city on the island west of Coronet. We built our city and I even grinded a long time almost alone to gain enough faction points to get our PA a small rebel base. With this base located on our island, our PA members grinded together to buy a large HQ base. These were the good old days...
Then last fall, the true nature of how to become a Jedi was revealed and I was definitely disappointed to hear that all it took were random professions and not some quests. Supposedly at the time, it took somewhere between 3 or 5 random professions. I thought long and hard about it and decided if that was the way I was to get my Jedi, then that is what I would have to do. At that time, I would rather have done quests instead of grinding professions but played by your rules. So this started my path to the holo-grind. For almost a year, I grinded through all my holo professions along with the rest of them except ID. I heard rumors that in order to "control" the Jedi population, that you guys raised the bar even higher by raising the number of random professions to unlock from the original 3-5 to 8. This was confirmed further by someone I know who has a friend that was a former SOE programmer working on SWG. So I was pretty angry to hear about this and decided since I had already grinded that far up to that point, to continue playing by your rules. It was no coincidence to see that most people were now unlocking their Jedi upon mastering upwards of 18, 25, or 29 professions. Now it seems in the past week, from reports I've heard, that it was set at all 32 professions to unlock and get the message. Well, I just wanted to say that I played by your rules and now I want my just reward.
When Publish 10 releases soon, I sure hope that my Jedi is ready to play when I login. In some ways, I think those of us who grinded 30, 31 professions should be getting more than those who unlocked at 18, 23, or 27 professions. We worked harder than these other guys, we had to click more times, we had to kill more critters, and spend more credits on stuff, etc. Now we have to do quests to work even harder to get our Jedi unlocked? Where is the fairness in all this when you kept raising the random professions in order to "control" the population? Basically, you reward the power gamers who spend their entire days glued to their seat with their eyes stuck on the computer monitor? If you wanted the unlocking of Jedi to be quest-based, you should have done this last year when I wanted quests! Now that I played by your rules and grinded all these professions, I'm going to be set back even further because you finally put quests in to unlock my Jedi?
FYI, I am not an eBay Jedi seller wannabe. I just want to play as a Jedi in SWG to see what it is like and know that I accomplished something in the game that not everyone will go for or try for. I put all this time, not to mention money, into grinding these professions and what do I have to show for it? So my plea to you, the developers of this game with great potential, is that you be VERY fair and generous when you give out your holo-grind credits. Think of the time and effort put into grinding 31 professions and give us a break. I really don't want to do quests now after grinding and I hope you truly see where I am coming from with this. Bascially, I hope in the amount of time to do one more profession to unlock (a couple of days at most) is reflected with the new quest system. Don't send us back further than where we were at the point of Jedi revamp is what I want to stress here. Please don't think of this as a whine or rant of someone who doesn't want to do a quest but just a voice of reasoning and a plea for some leniency with your new system. I am sure others are in the same boat as I am and will feel the same way.
Thank you for your time in reading this message and I hope the Force is with me and the other holo-grinders soon.

It's really sad to read about that, especially now that it takes 40 hours to grind through ID (when it used to take 2). I ground out 9 professions and ran out of time (I dont live in the game). Sorry to hear about your luck.

You are not alone in needing ID as prof 32. I know of 6 others plus myself who are in the same boat. Obviously the devs, in their infinite wisdom decided to make unlocking impossible to anyone who hadnt already mastered this prof. They have just made the rules up as they go along, putting up barriers as soon as too many people get near to the finish line. Anything they do now comes as no surprise to me and i am waiting to be right royally screwed when it comes to credit for the hologrind.

Lol...you fools make me laugh...Do you think grinding is just going out, ..turning guildchat, groupchat and spatial off then adding the whole server to your ignore list? You meet so many MORE people when out grinding (fair enough..maybe not the crafting ones) and you become a member of so many prof boards to look for tips on how to do your next prof that it makes your gaming experience twice the size of your average nongrinder. I have 103 badges and have seen everything there is to see in this game during my grind and why would we tell peoplel looking for training to f*&* off as you so eloquently put it when we are the biggest market movers for AP..Get your head out of your ass and dont comment on things you obviously know absolutely nothing about!

oh ok so a pèrson who grinded 32 profesions has tons of free time to help out people and meet new friends /HUM i dont think so.
im just stating that they choose the way of holo-grinding,it was a 2 way lottery they knew that,so plz stop crying now and take the quest like everyone else.
and let me think ok,you want credit for what exactly???
-FOR IGNORING PEOPLE WHO NEEDED HELP
-FOR MAKING YOU HATE A GAME BECAUSE OF YOUR OWN FAULT
I those reasons are more then enough that you rethink about your status in the game.
P.S. i was polite and didnt insult anyone i just stated my opinion, someone and i really dnt care to say his name called me an idiot,oh well it really doesnt bother me but you should try to be more polite, maybe, maybre your parents died when you were little, thats the only reason i can think for you not having GOOD MANNERS AND EDUCATION

I /salute anyone who had the fortitude to grind worthless professions they didn't like or want.
In the end, you will find it was worthless after your saber awe wears off.
Jedi are going to be dumbed down soon, so your not gonna be uber.

I'm torn on this one...really i am. I feel for you that you grinded so many and didn't get what you wanted. I really do. On the other hand I remember when my wife got to the point where she could make stim Ds and REALLY wanted janta blood to make awesome stims. We killed HUNDREDS if not thousands of jantas. Not one drop. We don't always get what we want even when we work really hard for it.
From a RP standpoint maybe the force doesn't come to some people as readily as others. Maybe some students have to work at it harder than others. That is why some people got an unlock with fewer professions.
