I just started a character which is marksman/Artisan but the problem I am having is finding the items I need to make weapons etc. Can anybody give me some ideas?

I'm assuming by this you mean you can't find the resources you need to make the base/newbie weapons an artisan can make? Cntrl+v in-game by default should bring up your global map, on the right side of that there are several boxes to click, one is "Vendors", just click on it and subgroupings will show, click the one you want and then right-click over a vendor you think has what your looking for and select "create waypoint", you can then activate this in your datapad or if you have onscreen waypoints turned on you can simply select it from the list.

Thanks, another quick question how long does it take to level up where you can make droids and the good weapons?

If your refering to being a weaponsmith or a droid engineer, that would depend on your definition of good. There are some niche' markets open for you as novice or intermediate, but most vets want "the best", so your pretty screwed in regard to makeing heaps of cash as a weaponsmith until your a master. As for DE, the only real money to be made there is in occassional normal droid sales, the rest is by selling the survey droids, BH tracker ones, and some of the detonator ones for smugglers and BH's. And you won't ever get rich at it.
As for the time necessary to master either, your in for a long haul. I'd say a week with steady everyday grinding for 5-8hrs a day and a good bank account for weaponsmith. DE on the other hand, double that. So for anyone that's just doing it because that's what they want to be and don't have 5million in the bank to waste, it'll probably be a month or two on each.
As an artisan yourself you have the easiest way to make money now...resources, you can make personal harvestors, survey for the best concentration of the particular resource your interested in, drop a few harvesters and rake in the materials that you will need and that are in demand by others and sell the ones that are good that you don't wish to keep or need.
Go to SWGcraft.com select your galaxy and either the planet(s) your interested in, or all and your all set.
