Hi

I'm soon getting a new computer. I'm using the same Hard drive in the new one, but will be reformatting, so it has no trace of previous hardware. I wondered however what do I lose SWG wise from wiping it off my HD. Is it just Macros and notes, or should I back everything up?

I think this is the right place to ask about this, because I havnt seen any technical question forums, so this seems like the logical one.

My hard drive crashed on me and I was able to get it to give me access long enough to copy some files. I was able to save my files and foldersin C:\program files\StarwarsGalaxies.

As soon as I got my new hard drive up and running and reinstalled SWG,I copied all the folders in C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies\Profiles\ into the new C:\Program Files\SWG\Profiles Folder. when I restarted SWG all my macros and preference seetings were saved, thank God!... i did run into a few thigns that wasn't saved but nothing major.

Good luck, thats about all I can remember that I copied. Hope it helps.

I have tried the user.cfg method of loggin into two accounts on one computer. My goal is to buff my mail character with my alt account, a master doctor. I found a methed that involved creating a user.cfg file that supposedly allowed multiple instances of SWG. This did not work. Has anyone actual done this, and if so would you please share your secret.

yes, it does work...you have to make sure it's identical to the example's that are up.

Create a new file in notepad,

[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=true

then save as user.cfg --make sure you when you save it, you change the 'save as type' to all, its by default set to text document. make sure you save it in the main swg folder

ex...c://program files/SWG

Yes, and if you were already a computer person, you would have already turned off the "moron option" to hide file extensions. The file you originally made was probably named user.cfg.txt and the moron option hid the .txt from you.

Sorry Wokka, no "moron option" involved here. The file is called user.cfg and is located in the SWG folder under Program Files. I will check for other possible "fat finger" errors.

Right click on it and look at the properties. I'm guessing it will say Type: Text Document

Ok, I need to apologize, when I said moron option, I wasn't referring to any users. I was referring to Microsoft's ways of hiding things from users. they assume we don't need to know file extensions so they hide them by default. Even though the name looks like "user.cfg" the .txt if there, is hidden until you turn the option off. (or if you right click and look at the properties of the file to see the real filename.)

In the file, make sure you have the following 2 lines:

[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=true

The CAPS in there need to be exact. Also, in order to initialize directX correctly, you have to completely run the first copy until you are in-game before running the second copy until you are in-game. Do not try to alt-tab while they are loading.

Does anyone know if/how I can turn off the red glare on my shields when I get shot? If I'm taking on more than a few enemies, it's certain death because I can't move while my shields are blazing red every 2 seconds. It also means I'm totally useless to anyone trying to do the corvette because the TIEs have me lit up like a christmas tree all the time, making it impossible to line up a shot.

If stupidity got us into this mess then why can't it get us out of it?

I don't need to hate people on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, nationality, or any of those other things. 30 seconds of conversation usually does the trick.
