Thread: Newbie Guide Read this if you've got the Newbie Blues (It's what helped me)
I started out very slow at the launch. Stranded on the Rori moon, not very many people hardly any credits and was running delivery boy errands back and forth across town. Very boring, I was not impressed. I gave the game a chance and posted some questions and got some responses like "If you don't like it leave n00b".
Below are the suggestions I got from more helpful players, along with some of my own discoveries that made all the difference.
1. Take Two Delivery Missions at Once - When you are trying to generate those initial credits to get enough money for a shuttle ticket or to buy some supplies, initial training, etc. Use the mission terminal, but take TWO missions that arerelatively close to each other. Use the refresh button until you see two missions that will net you over 130 or 140 credits and are in the same direction on the compass. A few of these (well maybe more than a few, but not many more) and you can get some starting training, some hobbies, heck even a ticket off the force forsaken rock your stranded on. This shortens the amount of time you spend being delivery boy/girl.
2. Go to a populated city - If there are no people where you are (I logged into Rori very "back country"), First thing you do is grab a shuttle to a major city. When you get to the city head for the cantina. If the town doesn't have a cantina. You can usually catch a good show, get some training and meet new people.
3. Do Destroy Missions only in groups - If you want to do destroy missions you have to group at low levels. Don't "drive by invite" people either. Chat them up first and role play _BEFORE_ inviting people to your group. which brings me to the next thing which may not be for everyone, but for me it's what put this game over ther top.
4. Role Play your character - If this were really Star Wars you wouldn't have a flashing neon sign over your head with your name on it. Say hello, ask people what their name is, introduce yourself, THEN invite them to your group after you've determined they are here to have fun and not just be some power leveling, maniac d00d that doesn't give a hoot about having a good time with other people. If you don't use group chat for OOC (Out of Character) chat, at least preface anything you say that is not in character with ooc: (Sorry non RP'rs acting like fools is one of my pet peeves).
5. Talk to the NPC's - This is an important one. You may have to forfiet a couple of them because they are too hard, or too far and you don't have the credits to fly there, but you will find them if you talk to the NPC's. If you continually take Mission terminal Quests you will be bored, period (At least I was). They are recycled over and over but they give you a way to make some quick credits. (Keep an eye on your factions when you take jobs and flavor to taste).
6. Take a trip - Get out and see the world. Get a Scout to take you cross country. I took my scout character out into the wilds of Theed on a mission and found lots of interesting things and people out there. There were also lots of NPC missions from people out in the middle of nowhere and it's a big place.
7. Take up a hobby. Last Thing - If you are a Brawler martial arts person, you might want to Dance on the side to keep in shape and make some extra credits on the weekends. My Scout is going to do a little bootlegging of finer beverages, and maybe a little culinary art as well. He also does some amature tinkering (good for basic devices), and he also is very handy with a pistol.
8. Don't be a d00d - Really the last thing.A d00d is someone who gets enjoyment from spoiling somebody elses fun. If you don't like the way someoneelse is playing or vice versa, it's abig universe, don't hassle go somplace else.Get into the part, don't annoy others, play nice, brush your teeth, put your toys away, and don't stay up too late. Have fun all, I hope this helps and you all have as much fun playing SWG as I have had. Great job Dev team you've really put together a fine game.. WOOT!
With regard to missions - I would reccomend taking ones that pay 600+ credits and grabbing a shuttle to the destination city. You start with 200+ credits which is more then enough to get a shuttle to shuttle ticket and net 1K-1.4K one way - then grab 2 more at the city you end up in. The in-town missions are a waste of time.
Great guid btw!
A note for anyone wanting to take shuttles to another city. Open your planetary map (defaults to ctrl+v) and check the distance and direction from where you are to a city as far away as you can get. (The farther you go, the more they're worth.) For instance, if you are in Bela Vistal on Corellia, it's around 13000 meters MW to Kor Vella. Then, when you check the details on your mission, make sure that 1) the starting point is within 300m or so and 2) the destination is the same distance as your target city. THen just hop a shuttle and get some cash.
On a similar note, and for those wishing to save some cash, it's cheaper to go from and to a shuttleport vs a starport. It's usually around 240 to go from a shuttleport to a starport, but only 120 to go from a shuttleport to a shuttleport. I don't remember exactly what it is, but it costs even more if you leave from a starport.
On the note of the in town city mission, that is not nessary true. If you are intrsted in faction points in town missions are betetr, In one hour I made 150 points and 3k or credits, but if money is what you need take the distant onces on another city, in an hour I usally get only 100 points but 10 or 12k of credits.
If any new people top the game need tips on earnning faction points or money on the startsider server, my name is Kauyon, message me and I will help you out as much as I can.
