Each week, we start a thread for you to share game tips with fellow players. Do you have a little known command you use all the time? A cool place to visit? A trick (non-exploit) to getting more out of the game?

Share it here.

To get things started:

Getting a list of Slash Commands

If you ever need a full list of slash commands, simply type // and enter into the chat window and you will get a full list of slash commands.

What tip do you have that you can share?

Check out last week's tips

Now that your datapad auto-sorts, crafting macros that rely on /selectdraftschematic have problems.

You can get around the "guessing game" of finding the correct schematic number by replacing that line with this one:

/ui action defaultButton;

Now just start your crafting tool and select what you want to craft manually. It can sometimes help to make the first one by hand.

The next time you run the macro, the last thing you crafted will be selected and the "defaultButton" command will just advance the tool to the resource selection screen.

This is so much easier than the 'selectdraftschematic' method because you don't have to modify your macro every time something changes. The only difference is that you have to select the one you want to craft manually the first time you do it.

On a related note...

Pressing CTRL-SHIFT-G will give you a lot of information, and the time mentioned there is the current time on the planet you are on. So if it's dark out and you're wondering when the sun will come up, just press CTRL-SHIFT-G and it will give you a rough idea. (press it again to get rid of the window)

It also lists things like memory usage, your coordinates, FPS, etc.

And for anyone who is wondering... 1 second of real time is 6 seconds in planetary SWG time as far as I can tell. So a 24 hour day passes in game in 4 hours.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

Great to know. There have been many times when I've wondered about things like this.
For those of us that don't use the default keymap, what is the command called so I can try to find what it got remapped to when I selected the FPS layout to build from.

/ui action clearCombatQueue is probably one of the most helpful commands for combat macros... I personally use it to clear my queue before heals and kd/suppression moves

Oh and while I'm on the subject of usefulkeyboard shortcuts...

CTRL-SHIFT-H will hide your on screen display (or HUD - head's up display). You know... all of the windows and toolbars and chat tabs and radar. It's very useful for taking screenshots. Pressing it again will make it come back.

The PrtScrn (Print Screen) button will take screenshots and they are stored in your SWG folder. (by default - C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies\Screenshot001.jpg...etc) The button is located on the upper right hand of US keyboards right next to Scroll Lock and Pause/Break.

CTRL-SHIFT-F2 is the default keyboard shortcut to hide or display your cockpit in space. The option is also a checkbox in your options.

Pressing CTRL-\ is the default shortcut for the /peace command. This makes it easy to spam it when you're in trouble.

CTRL-Backspace will clear the Combat Queue. That's the place that shows which specials you have lined up to perform. If you need to get in a heal or a different kind of move and you have other moves in line, you can press this to clear that and then hit your heal or different move. You can also incorporate this into macros by using the command /ui action clearCombatQueue.

CTRL-N will turn on or off names above characters heads and above items. This is also useful for screenshots. The best way to use this feature is to go into options and misc and check the box that says "Display Name for All Objects" and uncheck all of the other boxes. That way when you press CTRL-N it will turn all of the names on or all of the names off.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:

•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

Hmmm...I just checked and it's not able to be remapped directly, but it's called 'UI Debug Print'. I found this out by trying to remap CTRL-SHIFT-G. So it should be set that way for all of the different keyboard templates.

A couple more slash command tips:

  • Typing "/a" then hitting ctrl-shift-tab will give you a list of all commands that start with "a". You can make the command as long as you want for your search, so "/melee" then ctrl-shift-tab will list all slash commands that start with "melee" (whether you actually have the ability or not). Handy if you can't quite remember the spelling of a command. I'm not sure if this is common to all keymaps, I believe the item in the keymap is called "command completion".

  • "/help {command}" can be handy for getting the syntax of some complicated ones. I can never remember the options for /alarmaddin (the command to create an alarm that triggers after a given amount of time), so "/help alarmaddin" is my friend.

yeah we get a list but it doesnt do us much good. what we NEED is a list of player usable /commands all the options for each command and EXACTLY what each command does. we also need this for all player usable /ui commands.

any other game i buy in the store supplies a full list of commands i can use in the game. SWG is the only game i have taht i have had to guess at what something does and experiment to figure out a command.
