Thread: Quick question about re-using a chacater name.

Simple question, but I've never seen a for sure answer.
If I were to delete my current character, and make another one (on the same account), would I be able to re-use my original name?
Also if so, would I need to wait? How long?
Thank you in advance to whoever can let me know or point me to a dev written statement regarding this.

Yes, you can re-use it. and yes, you have to wait a while. I rerolled and named my new character the same, said it was taken, but after 30 mins i could use it.
BUT, i rerolled again last night and haven't been able to use it yet. I have a theory and will get back to you later.

You should be able to reuse it, although there is some kind of wait, maybe until server reset? I just know that when i have deleted characters I have been unable to use the same name right after deleting. Although you might try reloading the client and using the same name. I imagine it is a reset issue for something.

I made a character the first day of live, deleted and wanted to re-use...just got another account and it still isn't free yet, and I've had the name on my friends listing just to make sure it wasn't some other guy that got it first. I'll just have to wait for the purge come october. If the other 2 guys are correct, then this must have changed.

I had a similar experience. I created a character on Bloodfin on day 1 and decided that I wanted to play a different race. To this day I still can't recreate a character on Bloodfin using the name I had used on day 1.

Normally it takes anywhere between 1 hour and 30 days for a name to be released by the database. It has nothing to do with server restart, CSRs cannot speed up the process for you... it's just down to luck I'm afraid.
The longest I have personally had to wait was around 3 months, and I have heard of a couple of cases of it taking even longer.
The only thing you can do is cross your fingers and try recreating the char every few hours, until you get bored of waiting.

Igot a nameon day one as well, deleted the char to start on another server, but could not use that name on another server either. I went back to the first server and it wouldn't let meuse it again. I tried again during the day and it still said the name was taken. I would check often on friends list to see if someone else had it and was online, but it never came up. Finally a couple of days ago I readded it to friends and got the message it was not a valid friend name. So it took about a year.
