When choosing a server to start a character, you get to choose a server, what does distance mean?

If a server is up, it appears as 3 for me

If a server is down, it appears as 5 for me

Does not matter if the server is East Coast, West Coast, or European

Got truncated there....

The other is lag due to packet loss. Essentially the server and your computer is waiting for information, and won't let you procede until it gets it. It may predict what is going to happen in the near future for you, but will reset from your "client" reality to the "server" reality when it gets its info.

Bottom line, until the internet gets redesigned, lag of this sort may be hard to get rid of.
