Thread: Crazy Downloads?

Is anyone else experiencing any incredibly large downloads? I just went to sign on and it says I have a six hour downloads. I have a pretty quick system hooked up to DSL and I've never had a download that was more than about 5 minutes. Even for the patches. It is now telling me I'm downloading data_texture_00.tre, which I think is a launch file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did u reinstall swg ? cuz u have to download everything again. if u didnt reinstall id say your game is pretty messed up

I'm going to go with pretty messed up, since I didn't reinstall. Crap....

yeah if i reinstall SWG it usually takes me 3+ hours to download everything again, or maybe a virus deleted your files.. or a hacker, who knows

I have one active account left, for my TC toon. From the launchpad, a DL starts, I dont get a ETA on the DL and it freezes after about an hour....so, who knows?

Has your system done an auto install of windows xp service pack 2?
Just thinking because MS push it out just recently.

This happened to my girlfriend the other day, not to me though. Full scan and the checker in the SWG folder show up as everything okay. Tried the usual deleting the profiles folder. No changes to her system or hardware at all. Looks like somethings up with the download scheduling at SOE's end?

I had this exact problem with my system last week. In the SWG folder there is a program called TREfix.exe. You can run this program (without launchpad or Galaxies running) and it will check the metadata of all your .tre files. If it finds problems with the files it will initiate a download of the new files from SOE. I had 2 of my files corrupted.
The total download size of both of these files was a little in excess of 200Mb. So I copied them from another computer into the SWG folder of the computer that was having the problems and ran TREfix.exe again. Both of the problem files now reported no errors, and when launchpad was restarted the game launched immediately, no more wanting to download from SOE.
If you dont have another computer, you may have to endure the onetime download that the TREfix.exe initiates, but after that it should clear things up.
Hope this helps with the problems you are experiencing. BTW there is a .txt file that gives more inforamtion about TREfix.exe, it is called TREfix.txt (or something like that)

same thing happened to me and the download said it will take 4-5 hours. i waited it out but it only took 5 minutes hehe

check your firewall settings...SOE has been know to create strange flaws when sending through some firewalls

And run a full scan before you play it again. Sometimes, that will fix things. It's also a good idea to run a full scan if the game crashes.
