Since they (SOE) locked the original thread so NO ONE could reply, well I started my own so we could tell them how crappy this is. Below is the original message that TH posted (I'm not TH hating here, I know hes just the messenger). However, there are many problems with this so-called NEW? service.

First off, this was supposed to be implemented long time ago, free of charge, with the use of a command line switch. So why was this not used?

Sencond, we already pay to play this game and now we have to pay more for this so-called service?

Third, you call this a character transfer, well lets look at what a character is comrised of. You have a name, look, skills, inventory, bank account, house with lots of items, badges and so on... Now lets look at what actually gets transfered. They give you your name (maybe, if your lucky), your look (that an ID could do), skills and thats it. So essentially, all your paying for is to keep your skills and thats it, everything else you could do yourself through character creation on another server.

So why is this called Character Transfer? And why should we pay for it? SOE, this is just another poor move on your part.

Do you want to meet new friends?Want to travel abroad? Are you looking to join old friends in new places or just start your life again in a new Galaxy?

Then use Star Wars Galaxies new

The Star Wars Galaxies community continues to grow each day. This community has evolved from the many fan sites, message boards, player associations, and from playing the game. Many times when a new friend is made in the community, that friend does not always play on the same Galaxy that you do. Because of this, we receive many requests to transfer characters to different Galaxies.

The Character Transfer Service is now available.

The service is similar to other SOE transfer services, but there are some additional considerations.

Character Transfer Fee Schedule

For moving characters on the same account from one galaxy to a different galaxy:

Each Character $30.00 (total charge)

For moving characters from one of your accounts to one of your other accounts but not changing to a different galaxy:

Each Character $30.00

For moving characters from one of your accounts to another one of your accounts and changing to a different galaxy:

Each Character $60.00

In addition to the fees described above, if you are a resident of a European Union country or territory, you will also be charged VAT (Value Added Tax) equal to 17.5% of the applicable fee.

Guidelines and Restrictions

Characters will ONLY be allowed to take their appearance, experience and skills with them. All items, pets, credits, badges, quest status, etc. will NOT transfer with the character.

It is highly recommended that you do not give away or destroy existing items upon requesting a transfer, as it is possible that your move request may be denied. Items deleted or given away in anticipation of a future move will not be replaced.

Unless and until the game is modified to permit more than one character per Galaxy, the rule of one character per Galaxy will remain in effect. If you wish to move a character to a Galaxy with an existing character, you will need to delete that character to make room for the character you wish to move.

A character that has become Force-sensitive or Jedi cannot be moved to another Galaxy or another account.

Player Association Affiliations: We will be removing any Player Association affiliation as part of the character move process.

Characters will not be moved to Galaxies that are less than 6 months old.

When moving characters between accounts, you must be the registered owner of both accounts. You will be required to enter a valid credit card as the only form of payment for this character move service. If you are currently paying for your account with a Game Card, you must submit credit card information using the billing information fields provided.

No refunds will be permitted once your request is approved and processed. If you change your mind about moving your characters after they have already been moved, you will need to fill out an additional Request Form to move the characters back to the original Galaxy or account and you will again be charged the applicable transfer fees. In the event that you return to your originating Galaxy, items, credits, pets, structures, or any other tangible game components can not be restored upon return to that Galaxy.

All approved requests will be processed when reasonably practicable to do so. SOE reserves the right to deny any attempted request to transfer in its sole and absolute discretion for any reason or no reason.

The Request Form cannot be used to move more than one character; if you would like to move multiple characters to multiple Galaxies, you will need to fill out additional Request Forms (and pay the applicable transfer fees).

There are no discounts for multiple transfer requests. The fees described above apply for each Request Form.

If you attempt to transfer characters in violation of these guidelines and restrictions, any laws, the Terms of Use for Star Wars Galaxies or the Rules and Policies (for instance, attempting to transfer characters from another person's account or to or from an account purchased by or for you or given to you where you are not the original registered user of that account), the characters will not be moved, your request will not be processed or approved and your account(s) will be subject to review and appropriate disciplinary action taken.

Character names are not guaranteed on galaxy-to-galaxy transfers. If the character's name has already been used on the Galaxy you wish to move to, you will be able to enter a new name in the field provided (subject to the terms and conditions of the Character Naming Policy).

Account-to-account transfers on the same Galaxy will require a name change. You will be given the option to choose a new name.

If you currently have 8 characters across all Galaxies, you will need to delete one in order to make a transfer.

I just hit a bunch of buttons and hope everything works out.

Why are you upset? If you don't want to transfer your character, don't do it. It's not like they are trying to start the next big fad here saying "c'mon it'll be fun, try out all the servers!".

In fact, hey probably don't want you to use this feature, but since it is in high demand, they are offering it but to keep it from being abused they set rules up so that it's almost easier to just reroll a character.

Look ... they are charging because with this kind of function they cannot automate it, it is too risky, moving data from one cluster database to another will have to be done by aperson who has to getpaid and thus they have to charge

They have said they want to impliment moving other items like money and inventory, clearly this is a big deal. I work with databases and large amounts of data all the time and trust me all this is not as easy as you may think.

We are talking about large amounts of data distributed over tables in a database, automating this would be a major project in itself and involved lots of testing, frankly they have come through and enabled this feature which everyone was asking for and done it in the best way possible considering all the other things they have on right now which we all see as vital.

Plus, your character is just that, your character. His/Her name and look and skills. Your characters belongings are something else. Clearly if someone has your first name they cannot give you that on the new server

IMO the only people who really should bother with this are crafters and maybe BH as it is much more hassle to do those professions than a combat prof you can sort in a few days to a week.

I've repeated myself and mis-spelt but i can't be bothered, if you don't like the service, don't use it.

I am sure it is not simple to move a character to another server. However, they just copied the eclipse (I believe it was this server) characters, items and all, to test center 2. So, it can be done. I would rather have my items than my character name, look, and skills. Those things are much more easily attained than items (and badges, but that I am still not as concerned with).

I look at it the same way but say you have a friend on another server and you want your Char to join his you pay them a fee to move you and then you lose it all to move houses credits and items so its the same as rerolling your char so just start another one its the same thing sony must think ppl are stupid cmon.

If they dont charge, people would be just move characters around for events, duels, & griefing knowing many ofyou

Well the people with 2 accounts anyway so the property & cash is safe...

At the end of the day 8 servers should be enough

I have no problem with them charging for people to transfer, this takes them time and also serves as a deterrent to people attempting to exploit differing economies on various servers. However, as it is now, the character transfer is basically worthless. Since nothing is transfered but your skills, its just better to start a new character on the server you want to go to. The only skills I can think of that might be worth paying to transfer are master ID, BH investigation 4, and possibly DNA sampling 4. Those are some skills that take some substantial time to gain. Otherwise, a lot of people can master any profession in a few days. Personally, I think your character is more about items/possessions than your looks (easily altered) and skills (often dropped and changed). I would very much like to change servers, but there is no way I am throwing away a years worth of irreplacable items. Instead, I will try to wait until they decide to do a real character transfer with items.

I think you're right, the service is useless as-is. The opportunity to transfer my money and items to another server would have value. These things are very hard to replace, compared to the skill tree which would be both easy and fun to re-do.

Do badges transfer?

First - It was not supposed to be implemented long ago and free of charge. The ability to transfer your character to TEST CENTER was promised long ago, not ability to transfer to ANY server.

Second - You pay to play the game not to have your character transfered. If you want to have your character transfered (which is not playing the game but a database activity done by someone else) then you have to pay for that.

Third - If I lost my job, lost my house, exchanged a Ford with a Chevy, I do not change. My posessions are not me. My character is made of of what she is not what she has.

Allowing transfer of items and cash would open too many issues. Your items and cash were generated on a server and to transfer them would remove them from one economy and add them to another economy. Even on a small scale this could have concequences.

Now badges seems like something that should be allowed or at least some of them. Mastering a profession, visiting a location... all are things that could have been done on a different server without concequence. Now succeeding in Part 2 of Story Arc might be something that does not make sense and due to unknown behide the scene code issues might actually cause problems. I will have to trust that Sony made the decision to not transfer badges for a good reason.

No, BlueMilk. They have said that badges will not transfer.

Yes, transfer of items would have an effect on the server. However, unless you plan on selling all those items, it would not affect the economy. Your credits might, but not simply owning an item. However, people often do cross server credit and item trades now, and there have not been any massive negative ramifications. Also, a new character being created or moved to a new server, regardless of items, will affect that server in some way. Transfer of items will not ruin a server or the game, but it may make character transfer worthwhile for those who would really like to move servers.
