Thread: Novel Idea for Paintings

I got this idea for paintings.

What if a certain profession (to be honest I don't know who makes paintings now) could take a picture and it becomes an addition to craft a painting. it would allow paintings to be any image someone could grab. But make the "film" to catch the image very rare. You could also have additional effects with the proper items found such as black n white, or maybe a logo or foil of some kind appear over the image after it is crafted. The possibilies are limitless.haveing a pic of your guildhanging on your guild hall wall could be pretty cool. Or just an image of yourself with your adventure buddies around the house. I know the devs would some how have to code in the download from theserver to show the image but I think the jpg would be extremely small, and if they are very rare it shouldn't be a big deal.

While that would be agreat idea..... it most likely wouldn't happen because of the fact that each new paiting would require the person's computer to download them so he could view them.

Another idea about paitings that I would love to see happen is quests for architects to undertake (crafting quests, survey quests, and other quests that require no combat) so they can get schematics to craft new paintings, this way architects would have something to do and a hundred or so new paintins would be added to the game.

I also think each painting schematic should let the architect would makes it choose the size of the painting (small, medium, large, and XL would be big enough to cover a wall!), each size requiring more materials the larger it is.

Maybe we could vote on player submitted screenshots to be added once a week as paintings.

I'd simply like to see Archeticts be able to have a painting schematic then while crafting, they could choose from a list the color and style of the frame and the picture itself.

cool idea but everytime someone crafts a painting of a 'screenshot' everyone on the server will have to have this data uploaded to them in the form of a patch, otherwise no one will see it.not very practical but cool idea. unless i read your idea wrong..

There is a game that kinda does this. The game is called Second Life (www.secondlife.com). It allows players to upload "textures" (any image) for which they are charged in-game money. It's a -small- MMOG (more like a graphical MUCK or MOO). Each time you go to a new area/zone you have to have all the textures for that area downloaded to your computer. When you are far from something it's blurry but if you get closer and run your mouse over it, it become clearer. You can also make custom avatars with the textures.

Downsides... each time you move from one place to another, half of your own clothes/avatar might or might not appear to you or to other people. LAG is bad if you move around (since most people, from what I have seen, only stand around and type at each other or build constructs with textures, it's not so bad). It can take up to 5 mins (maybe more, but I only saw it at about 5 min while I was trying it) for something to appear. If you want to do anything in your inventory, each thing you do might take 2-3 mins or more.

Upsides... totally visually customisable. You can have -any- appearance you want, it's just "clothing" over your basic character body (including gender and species).

Sidelines... the biggest problem with a major MMOG (like SWG) allowing uploads of images (textures) is not the fact that you would have to download each time you crossed serverlines (something you do a lot in SWG) increasing LAG 1000%, it would be their liability for the images in the game. What if someone thought it would be "cute" to import an image of a naked girl? SWG would run the risk of losing the Teen rating. Same with a depiction of graphic violence or any other image that is "off-colour". There would be a way to limit is just to screenshots, but there are some screenshots which could be considered obscene or at least "off-colour" (i.e. someone crawling on someone else's corpse and other such).

However... I think it would be supremely cool if they were to take some of the Screenshot of the Day images and import them into the game.
