This guide was created for all you out there who find harvesting organic resources appealing. Now without further ado lets start.

Before we even start resource gathering we want to know what type of resource we are collecting and how good its stats are. The 3 major types of resources are meat, hide, and bone. Each has a very different purpose but all in all share the fact that they are cornerstone for crafting things (such as, but are not limited to, buff packs, med packs, wounds packs, armor, food, and clothing). Each of the 3 resources is then divided into subclasses which depend on what type of creature the resource came from (avian meat will come from and avian creature, leathery hide will come from a creature that has leathery skin but not something that has bristley hide). Meat and hide are seperated into many subclasses where are bone is only divided into 2 (avian and animal). After you've decided what type of resource you want to collect you probably want to know its statistics. The major statistics for meat are Overall Quality (OQ) and Potential Energy (PE). The major statistic for hide is OQ. The major statistic for bone is OQ. You might be thinking right now "why should I collect meat anyway? It has 2 major statistics instead of 1 like hide and bone!". The fact of the matter is that you will more commonly fetch a higher price for meat sales than for hide or bone as good meat has more purposes than hide or bone. Now, we need to check out what the current statistics are. This number can range from 1 (not even worth being looked at by an expert resource collector like you) to 999 (better than perfect). Note that these numbers are only for the major statistic as said earlier (OQ and PE-meat, OQ-hide and bone). Every other statistic has basically no effect and shouldn't be cared about. Now to find out how good the resource is. If you have hide or bone just look at the OQ. 1-300 is horrible. 400-600 is ok. 600-900 is great. 900-999 is excellent. Now for meat you have to do a little bit of math. Its pretty basic so don't worry. We need to find the average of the two major statistics (OQ and PE). For those who don't know how to average numbers I'll help you out.

Example

I have a a piece of Lokian Avian Meat with 518 OQ and 372 PE. To average the numbers first I have to add the numbers together. That gives me a total of 890. I then divide my total, 890, by how many numbers I added together. In this case, is 2. So 890 divided by 2 = 445. I like to call the averaged number the Exact Quality (or EQ). Now we look at the scale that I stated above and we find that our Lokian Avian Meat is ok.

P.S. Resource statisitcs, both major and minor, occasionally change and become a different number. This number is completely random ( ranging from 1-999) as is when the resources switch. What type of resource a creature drops will never change however. A Tatooinian bantha will always drop tatooinian herbivore meat, even if its stats change.

After you know what resource your after its time to figure out what creatures drop it. You can do this in a few ways. First off, you can ask around and most likely someone will know which creatures drop it. Second you can kill random creatures on the planet and try to get lucky in finding it. Third, if you have hunting 4 (in scouting) by examing creatures you can tell which resource it drops. Finally, if all else fails, you can go to www.swgcraft.com or www.swgcreatures.com and you'll find out. Now its off to the fun part.

Collecting the resource can be either the bane or blessing of your life. Some people love it (me), some people hate it ( people who hate collecting resources). Either way, if you want to become rich harvesting resources, you have to do it (or buy it from someone and sell it to another for a higher price but that's not very nice). First off, in order to harvest creature resources yourself you have to have novice scout at the very least. Having novice scout allows you to collect resources even if not extremely effectively. By going up the harvesting tree in Scout, your ability to more effectively harvest resources becomes enhanced (notice how important the hunting tree is). If you are running out of skill points or for one reason or another can't afford to become a scout than you have one other option. You can opt to get a Creature harvesting droid. Depending on how effectively the droid was made, this droid can harvest lots of resources that are instantly transferred to your inventory. Unfortunetly they have a downside too. Creature harvesting droids use up batteries terribly fast. Also, only you or your droid can harvest from the same corpse. You can't both harvest from the same corpse. Even with these downsides though, try to search out a really well made droid. Your clients and your bank accounts will thank you.

P.S. Trandoshans have a bonus to creature harvesting and are slightly more efficient than other races. This is due to the fact that their culture revolves around hunting.

Finally, the part many of you have been waiting for....(adopt deep booming voice) Selling your resources!!!! Now, depending on the EQ of your resource and what type it is, you can usually sell the resources for a wide range of prices, (1cpu and 2cpu and all the way to 125cpu or more...). Before you start your prices though, it would probably be best to find someone who is eager to buy the resources, as they probably already have a price in mind, and the buyer usually has a higher price in mind than the seller (unlike real life). Bone and hide usually go for 2cpu or 3cpu, maybe 8cpu if you're lucky. Meat however can range very much.

1-300 EQ=2cpu
400-600 EQ=3pu
600-800 EQ= 5cpu to 10cpu
800-900 EQ= 10cpu to 30cpu
900-999 EQ= 30cpu+

Well there you have it. If you've followed my guide from the very beginning you are already on your way to being a master resource harvester. Sometimes the going will get tough and boring. It happens to the best of us. But if you can tough the hard times out and take advantage of the good, you will come out on top and being swimming in the credits until the banthas come home.

May the Force be with you...always!

BTW thanks to every on this thread for the recommendations. I'll keep updating this thread and adding more if yo guy sfind anything wrong.

Very good guide, Risolis, quite helpful to all who would like to make many many credits harvesting.

However, as a Droid Engineer, I must disagree with the following statement:

<<You can opt to get a Creature harvesting droid. If you hunting 4 or higher (ranger skills) than I would recommend not spending the credits on one. You already have high enough skills to almost match the harvesting prowess of one of the droids. The differnce is usually only around 5,6, or 7 units and is not that significant. The difference doesn't normally make up for the price of batteries.>>

I have personally been on a 2-hour hunt recently (with my alt - I personally ALWAYS use a harvester droid) that yielded more than 10K inEndorian Herbivore Meat, which was selling for 80 cpu. One person outshinedme in yieldbecause of a 114-rated Harvester Droid (120 is highest possible, and not yet reached anywhere). While I was harvesting 16 units, with just Hunting I, he was harvesting 22 units, also with just Hunting I and his droid.

The particular meat we were harvesting was selling for 80 cpu at the time. So the difference of 6 units per animal was making him 480 credits more than me, 1760 versus 1280 PER ANIMAL! It also amounted to him getting roughly 464K to my 336K. The difference of 128K will buy him a LOT of batteries, by my best calculation.

I belive I stated that if you have hunting 4 or more don't get one. If you don't have hunting 4 than by all means get one. If I didn't point that out I'm sorry. Man I wanted some 5 stars for me post =(

Nice guide, 5 stars

EDIT: Being a Master Ranger with one of my characters, how does a high rated harvester droid compare?

A good creature harvest droid can harvest better than a Master Ranger. But a droid requires some micro-management that sometimes be annoying.

Dedicated creature resource hunters should have a droid. A newer player should just find some Veghash food to boost their creature harvest skill.

You should mention that its easiest to make a macro for /harvest meat|hide|bone and then bind that macro to a key.

A master ranger has 100 in Harvesting mod, a droid typically has 107-113 in rating and as such is slightly better at the expense of using batteries and having a longerish activation time. If you are even remotely serious about creature harvesting I would say find a decent Droid Engineer on your server and get the best bot you can afford.

Also, There's no shame what so ever in using sites as www.swgcraft.com to stay updated on when meat types shift, just remember to add some information yourself if you find it lacking, since it's for the whole community to use.

And, find a decent Cook and get some crates of Veghash, it's great and can easily let you pull a few hundred credits extra off the creatures you harvest.

Figure out how the pricing of creature resources is on your server and hook up with a Bioengineer or two and hear what they are willing to pay for carnivore meat and listen to the Doctors when they auction for Avian meat ect, basicly make a shopping list and find out where to hunt for what resources before you start on hunting. It will make it easier for you to figure out what you should be going after for the best Credits/Time spent reward. Always compare the different products, and when in doubt don't sell. There's nothing wrong with having a few hundred thousand units laying around in your house till the market is hungry enough to pay a price you want, this holds especially true if your server has just had a good row of nice spawns and all the doctors and BE's are all fat and happy.

Other than that, happy hunting

Just wanted to toss in that flavor is important for meat for BEs as well and BEs need every type of meat except avian. I always used to look for meat with 2400+ oq+pe+fl when I was a BE.

Lozareth is long gone.

This specific topic is not even remotely as clear as it might look here .

Among those with higher creature harvesting mods (tracking IV or Master Rangers) there are clearly two camps, one that you see in the quoted text and the other camp (to which I belong) considering the handling of harvesterdroids slowing them down too much to make them worthwhile (and don't think I didn't give them a chance ).

(and I clearly should use my main's forum account for posting and not this one heh)
